2-2. Outdoor Unit

AVOID:
heat sources, exhaust fans, etc. (Fig. 4)
damp, humid or uneven locations.
DO:
choose a place as cool as possible.
choose a place that is well ventilated.
install in a location where at least two sides are unob-
structed, so that the flow of air at the intake port or
exhaust port is not blocked, and so that sufficient
space is ensured for maintenance to be carried out
without trouble. In general the top also must be unob-
structed. (Fig. 5a)
provide a solid base (level concrete pad, concrete block,
6" x 1'4" (15 x 40 cm) beams or equal), a minimum of 6"
(15 cm) above ground level to reduce humidity and pro-
tect the unit against possible water damage and
decreased service life. (Figs. 5b and 5c)
A solid base must not cover
CAUTION
the hole of the bottom plate.
install cushion rubber under unit's feet to reduce
vibration and noise. (Fig. 5d)
use lug bolts or equal to bolt down unit, reducing
vibration and noise.
install in a location where no antenna of a television
or radio exists within 10' (3 m).

CAUTION
Concerning air-intake side distance "A" (Fig. 5a)
The minimum for distance "A" is 6" if there are no
obstructions on the air-discharge side (wall *1 side)
and *2 or *4 is not present. In all other cases, the min-
imum for distance "A" is 8".
If wall *1 is on the air-discharge side (Fig. 5a), or if
obstructions are present on all 3 sides *2, *3, and *4
(Fig. 5a), then the minimum distance for "B" and "C" is
39-3/8". Even if there is no wall on the air-discharge
side, a minimum of 39-3/8" is required.
