Should my boiler status read "c" at 4.30am when the heating and hot water are both on timed and they are not due to fire up until 6am? I accept that the "burner" is not on but I can hear the boiler is on whereas I would have thought it would be quiet at that time of the morning.

The status "c" on your IDEAL INDEPENDENT C24 boiler indicates that the boiler is in standby mode with no demand for heat. At 4:30 AM, the heating and hot water are scheduled to start at 6 AM, so the boiler is not yet receiving a signal to turn on. If you want the boiler to activate earlier, check the timer settings and ensure they are correctly programmed. Also, verify that the room thermostat is set to a temperature that will trigger the boiler when needed.
