When using power tools, always observe the safety regulations applicable in your country to reduce the risk of fire,
electric shock, personal injury and material damage. Read the following safety instructions before attempting to
operate this product. Keep these instructions in a safe place!
The following symbols are used throughout this manual:

1. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas and benches can cause accidents.
2. Consider work area environment. Do not expose power tool to humidity. Keep work area well lit (250-300 Lux). Do not
use Power Tools in the presence of inflammable liquids or gases.
3. Keep children away. Do not let children come into contact with the tool or extension cord. Keep all people away from the
work area.
4. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. They can be caught in moving parts. Preferably wear rubber gloves
and non-slip footwear when working outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to keep long hair out of the way. When
working outdoors, preferably wear suitable gloves and non-slip footwear.
5. Personal Protection. Always use safety glasses. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact resistant lenses, they are not
safety glasses. Use a face or dust mask whenever the operations may produce dust or flying particles. If these particles
might be considerably hot, also wear a heat-resistant apron. Wear ear protection whenever the sound level seems
uncomfortable, i.e. if the sound pressure stated in this manual exceeds 85 dB(A).
6. Guard against electric shock. Prevent body contact with earthed surfaces (e.g. pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators).
For use under extreme conditions (e.g. high humidity, when metal swarf is being produced, etc.) electric safety can be
improved by inserting an isolating transformer or an earth-leakage circuit breaker.
7. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
8. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate the tool when you are tired.
9. Secure workpiece. Use clamps or a vice to hold the workpiece. It is safer and it frees both hands to operate the tool.
10. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Always check that adjusting keys and wrenches are removed from the tool
before switching on.
11. Extension cords for outdoor use. When the tool is used outdoors, only use extension cords intended for outdoor use
and marked accordingly. Before use, inspect the extension cable and replace if damaged.
12. Use appropriate tool. The intended use is laid down in this instruction manual. Do not force small tools or attachments
to do the job of a heavy-duty tool. The tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was intended. Do not force
the tool.
War ning! The use of any accessory or attachment or performance of any operation with this tool, other than those
recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury.
13. Check for damaged parts. Before using the tool, carefully check it for damage to ensure that it will operate properly and
perform its intended function. Check for misalignment and seizure of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other
conditions that may affect its operation. Have damaged guards or other defective parts repaired or replaced as instructed.
Do not use the tool if the switch is defective. Have any damaged or defective parts replaced by an authorized repair agent.
Never attempt any repairs yourself.
14. Disconnect tool. Switch off and wait for the tool to come to a complete standstill before leaving it unattended. Unplug the
tool when not in use, before servicing or changing accessories.
15. Avoid unintentional starting. Do not carry the plugged-in tool with a finger on the switch. Be sure that the switch is
released when plugging in.
16. Do not abuse cord. Never carry the tool by its cord or yank it to disconnect from the socket. Keep the cord away from
heat, oil and sharp edges.
17. Store idle tools. When not in use, power tools must be stored in a dry place and locked up securely, out of reach of
children.
18. Maintain tools with care. Keep the tools in good condition and clean for better and safer performance. Follow the
instructions for maintenance and changing accessories. Inspect the tool cords at regular intervals and, if damaged, have
them repaired by an authorized repair agent. Inspect the extension cords periodically and replace them if damaged. Keep
all controls dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
19. Have your tool repaired by an authorized repair agent. This Power Tool is in accordance with the relevant safety
regulations. To avoid danger, electric appliances must only be repaired by qualified technicians.
Warning: Some dust created by power sanding, sawing grinding, drilling, and other construction activities contains
chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:
• Lead from lead-based paints,
• Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products, and
• Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber (CCA).
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure to
these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks
that are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.
Avoid prolonged contact with dust from power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction
activities. Wear protective clothing and wash exposed areas with soap and water. Allowing dust to get into your
mouth, eyes, or lay on the skin may promote absorption of harmful chemicals.
20. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using the tool.
21. Use only a limited amount of polishing paste. When using too much paste, the polishing cover could slide off the polishing
wheel.
22. Always follow the instructions supplied with the polishing paste used.
23. Always wear a dust mask when dry-polishing.
24. Do not use this tool for grinding applications.
25. Accessories must be rated for at least the speed recommended on the tool-warning label. Wheels and other
accessories running over rated speed can fly apart and cause injury.
26. Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the polishing tool may contact
hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with a "live" wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool "live" and shock the
operator.
27. Be sure bonnet is snugly installed on pad.
28. Keep hands and fingers away from rotating bonnet.
29. Before turning the switch to the ON position, be sure the pad is free to revolve harmlessly.
30. Inspect the bonnet frequently for wear, dirt or imbedded debris.
31. Do not allow the power cord to contact the rotating bonnet as it may become quickly tangled around it. If this occurs,
turn tool OFF and unplug the power cord before attempting to untangle the cord. If the cord is damaged, have it repaired
or replaced at your local tool repair station.
32. Never use a damaged or torn bonnet.
33. Wear proper clothing, short sleeves, nothing loose or bulky, such as shop coat, etc.
34. Do not turn tool on unless the polishing bonnet is against surface being polished.
35. Be extremely careful when polishing around sharp or protruding objects on the car body.
36. This product is designed as a polisher only. Do not use as a sander.
37. Do not use abrasive or rubbing compounds. The abrasive nature of these products can damage painted
surfaces.

Save these instructions!
The tool is double insulated. Double insulation means that all the external metal parts are electrically insulated from the
mains power supply. This is done by placing insulated barriers between the electrical and mechanical components so as
to making unnecessary for the tool to be earthed. NOTE: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions
when operating this tool. The insulation system is for added protection against injury resulting from a possible electrical insula-
tion failure within the tool.
The electric motor has been designed for one voltage only. Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on
the rating plate.
Warning: Never connect the live (L) or neutral (N) wires to the earth pin marked E or .
An extension cable should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of an improper extension cable could result in a risk of
fire and electric shock. If an extension cable must be used, use only those that are approved by the country's Electrical
Authority. Make sure that extension cord is in good condition before using. Always use the cord that is suitable for the powe r
input of your tool (see technical data on name plate). The minimum conductor size is 1.5mm 2 .
When using a cable reel, always unwind the cable completely.
Your Black & Decker polisher has been designed for polishing of painted metal surfaces (e.g. car bodies) and natural stone
surface finishing.
This tool is intended for consumer user only.

4. Spindle lock
Prior to assembly and adjustment always unplug the tool.
N.B. Accessories mentioned in this manual may not necessarily be included in your pack.
Mounting the Side Handle (Fig. B)
• Screw the side handle (5) tightly into one of the three holes (8) on the gear case.
Mounting and Removing the Rubber Backing Pad (Fig. C)
• Place the tool on a table, spindle (9) up.
• Press the spindle lock (4) and turn the spindle until the lock engages.
• Place the backing pad (10) onto the spindle.
• Screw the threaded flange (11) onto the spindle with the spanner (7), making sure that the raised portion of the flange is
facing towards the backing pad.
• Release the spindle lock.
• To remove the backing pad, follow the procedure above in reverse order.
Fitting the polishing bonnet (Fig. D)
• Place the tool on a table, spindle up.
• Mount the rubber backing pad as described above.
• Pull the polishing bonnet (12) over the backing pad (10). Pull drawstrings tight, tie bow knot and push knot and all loose
string completely under the inside, cloth edge of the polishing bonnet.
Tied knot and all strings must be tucked entirely under the cloth apron. Failure to do so may cause serious injury.
Always observe the safety instructons and applicable regulations.
• Apply only a gentle pressure to the tool. Do not exert side pressure on the backing pad.
• Avoid overloading. Should the tool become hot, let it run a few minutes under no load condition.
Prior to Operation
• Be sure the locking nut is mounted correctly.
• Make sure the pad rotates in the direction of the arrows on the accessory and the tool.
• Make sure any dirt is washed off the workpiece surface.
Polishing
• Always use clean polishing bonnets.
• Evenly apply a required amount of polishing paste over the polishing bonnet.
• Hold the polishing bonnet to the surface to be polished and switch on the tool.
• Move the tool evenly over the surface, without applying pressure.
• Switch off the machine before taking the tool from the surface.
• Check your work at short intervals.
High-speed rubbing action of the polishing bonnet upon the workpiece surface can build a static charge on the metal
portions of this tool resulting in a static shock when touched.
Switching On And Off (Fig. E)
• Switching on: press the on/off switch (1).
• The pressure exerted on the on/off switch determines the tool speed.
• Switching off: press the on/off switch again.
• This tool is equipped with a lock-off button (2) to prevent it from accidental starting. To lock-off the tool, switch off the t ool
and press the lock-off button.
• Always switch off and lock off the tool when work is finished and before unplugging.
Do not switch the tool on or off when under load.
Speed control (fig. F)
The maximum speed of your tool can be changed by rotating the Speed Control dial (3) to the desired setting.
• For added versatility, the switch may be locked in its full "ON" position and tool speed changed by means of the speed
control dial alone.
• The speed control dial can be set for any speed between 1000 and 3000 RPM and the variable speed switch will then
control tool speed from zero to the wheel setting. For example: A control wheel setting of 2200 RPM will allow the variable
speed switch to operate the tool between zero and 2200 RPM, depending on how far the on/off switch is depressed. A dial
setting of 1000 RPM would allow the switch to operate the tool from zero to 1000 RPM.
• Turn the speed control dial (3) to the desired position. The higher the number, the higher the maximum tool speed will be.
• Use a high speed setting for natural stone surface finishing. Use a low speed setting for polishing painted metal surfaces.
The speed setting must never exceed the maximum no-load speed rated on the accessory used.
Note: Although this discussion deals with polishing a car, your polisher is capable of polishing a wide array of flat surfaces such
as hardwood floors, furniture, boats and other surfaces that could use an occasional shine.
Make sure that the tool is away from your body before you turn the switch "ON".
Before working, let it operate for not less than one minute without load.
Never depress the spindle lock button (4) with the tool running or coasting.
• Hold your tool with one hand on the body and the other hand firmly around the side handle.
• Use lower speeds for applying liquid waxes and polishes and higher speeds for removing dried liquid. Use the highest
speed (fully depress on/ off switch) for buffing the car to a final luster.
• Before you begin, make sure the car is clean and dry. The work area should be dry also. If necessary, remove road tar with
a general cleaner before polishing. Also remove excess grease spots, bug stains, etc.
• MAKE SURE THE POLISHER IS IN THE "OFF" POSITION BEFORE PLUGGING THE POLISHER INTO AN APPROPRI-
ATE POWER OUTLET.
• ALWAYS START AND STOP THE POLISHER ON OR AGAINST THE SURFACE.
• Clean and polish a test section on a flat area of the car first is recommended so as to judge the strength or cleaning action
of your power polish.
• Place the cord over your shoulder and do flat surfaces first - hood, trunk and roof. Cover areas quickly with broad,
sweeping strokes in a criss-cross pattern.
• Exercise caution around edges, corners or small surface areas. Prolonged polishing on edges and corners can damage
these areas.
• DO NOT press down on the polisher. The machine's action, not pressure, does the best job.
• After flat surfaces are covered with wax, do sides of the car. Let the cord hang free. It is not necessary to use a criss-cross
motion on doors and fenders.
• DO NOT USE ABRASIVE COMPOUNDS. Liquid wax is recommended to use with this polisher.
• Remember, all power polish is not the same. Different brands will react differently on various painted surfaces. Also, you
are now using a power polisher with power polish. This is entirely different from any hand application that you may have
done before.
• Note: The high speed rubbing action of the polishing bonnet upon the surface of an automobile can build a static charge
on the metal portions of this tool. This can result in a sensation of a very short mild electric shock when the metal area of
the tool is touched, and will be more noticeable on days when the humidity is low. This is a harmless phenomenon but you
are invited to bring the tool to a Black & Decker service center where it can be checked to assure that no electrical
malfunctions presented.
• The polishing bonnet is only to be used for the final buff. Do not use it to apply wax.
Your Black & Decker power tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.
Your tool is not user-serviceable. Take the tool to an authorized Black & Decker repair agent. This tool should be serviced at
regular intervals or when showing a noticeable change in performance.
Lubrication
Black & Decker power tools are properly lubricated at the factory and are ready for use.
Motor Brushes
The brushes should be checked periodically and worn-out brushes should be replaced in time:
Unplug the tool.
• Unscrew the plastic brush inspection caps (6) and the spring and brush assemblies may be withdrawn from the tool.
• Check the length of the brush and replace if under 6mm. Worn brushes should be replaced in the same holder and position
as removed. When brushes need replacement always renew both brushes, even if one is still more than 6mm long.
• After replacing, keep running the motor for 15 minutes to match the contact of the brushes and commutator.
We recommend that brush replacement to be performed by a Black & Decker authorized service center or other qualified service
personnel.
Cleaning
Warning: Unplug the tool before you use a cloth to clean the housing.
With the motor running, blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with dry air regularly. Wear safety glasses when performing th is.
Exterior plastic parts may be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Although these parts are highly solvent resistant,
NEVER use solvents.
Tool Care
Avoid overloading the machine for long period.
Overloading will result in a considerable reduction in speed and efficiency and the unit will become hot. In this event, run t he
machine at no load for a minute or two until cooled to normal working temperature by the built in fan. Switching your machine
on and off whilst under load will considerably reduce the life of the switch.
Important
To ensure product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, maintenance and adjustment (other than those listed in this manual)
should be performed by authorized service centers or other qualified organizations, always-using identical replacement parts.
Unit contains no user serviceable parts inside.
The performance of any power tool is dependent upon the accessory used. Black & Decker accessories are engineered to high
