beforecheckingoil level.With engineon levelground,the oil must
be to FULLmarkon dipstick.

Change
Engine Oil
Referto the viscositychart (Figure25) for oil recommendations.
Do notover-fill.Use a 4-stroke,or an equivalenthighdetergent,
premiumqualitymotor oil certifiedto meetor exceedU.S.auto-
mobilemanufacturer's requirements for serviceclassification of a
minimumlevelSFor SG (higherletter ratingsare acceptablesuch
as SJ, SL and SMgrades).Motoroil will displaythis designation
on the container.

Changeengineoil after the first five to eighthoursof operation,
and everyfifty hoursor every seasonthereafter. C hangeoil every
twentyfive hourswhenoperatingengineunder heavyload or in
high temperatures.
To Drain Oil
Beforetippingengineor equipmentto drainoil, drain fuel fromtank by
runningengineuntilfuel tank isempty.
Used motoroil maycause skincancer ifrepeatedlyleft in contactwith
the skin for prolongedperiods.Althoughthis isunlikelyunlessyou
handleusedoil on a daily basis,it is still advisableto thoroughlywash
yourhandswith soapand wateras soonas possibleafter handling
usedoil.

With engineOFF but still warm,disconnectsparkplug wireand
keep itawayfrom sparkplug.

Placea funnelunderthe oil drain to avoidgettingoil on the tiller
frame.See Figure26.

Removeoil drainend cap locatedat the baseof the engine,and
drain oil intoan appropriatereceptacle. S ee Figure26.
Usedoil isa hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly
IDo notdiscardwith householdwaste. Checkwith yourlocal authori-
lties or SearsService Centerfor safe disposal/recycling facilities.

Replaceand tightenthe oil drainend cap.
6.
Whenengineisdrainedof all oil, placeenginelevel. Refillwith
approximately 20 oz. of fresh oil. Fillto FULLline on dipstick.Do
not overfill.Referto Checkingand AddingOil in this manuals
Assemblysection.
7.
Wipeoff anyexcessoil on the frame andengine.
8.
Replacespark plugwire beforestarting.
Transmission
Lubrication
The transmissionis pre-lubricated and sealedat thefactory.It requires
no checkingunlessthe transmissionisdisassembled. T ofill with
grease,laythe righthalfof thetransmissionon itsside, add 22 ounces
of Benalene920 grease,and assemblethe left half to it. See an
authorizedSearsServiceCenterto havethe transmissionlubricatedor
to scheduleservice,simplycontact Searsat 1-800-4-MY-HOME®.
1.
Drainthe fuelfrom the tank by runningthe engineuntil thefuel
tank is empty.Be surefuel fill cap is secure.
