Equipment Overview: Theory of Operation
The ApexPro system is a component in the GE Unity Network family of devices.
GE Unity Network devices have specific communication requirements and
behavior.
All Unity Network devices periodically broadcast information about themselves in
RWHAT packets. All Unity Network monitoring devices listen for RWHAT
packets, and maintain a database of RWHAT information received from all devices
on the Unity Network. RWHAT packets contain a variety of device information,
which includes communication port numbers, names, offered services, and unique
IP addresses.
Unique IP addresses for all Unity Network devices are vitally important. IP address
information, along with other RWHAT data such as device names and offered
services, allow Unity devices to communicate with each other effectively while
performing various tasks.
Devices connected to the Unity Network located next to each other communicate in
the same fashion as those located far apart. In some cases, the CIC Pro and ApexPro
applications may even reside on the same computer. The physical location of any
Unity Network device does not matter — each Unity Network device acts, as a
separate entity, identified by a unique IP address.
An ApexPro tower is the combination of the following components:
Server computer running the ApexPro server software. The ApexPro Telemetry
Server computer is an example of such a server computer.
ApexPro receiver system. Connected to the ApexPro server computer via a
Unity RX Network network connection.
Installations can have more than one ApexPro tower or antenna system. In such
installations, ApexPro towers are not limited to a specific antenna, but will receive
data from transmitters through any antenna in the installation and associate the data
with the proper receiver. This allows for maximum patient mobility within the
installation.
