AIR CLEANER SERVICE
A dirty air cleaner w ill restrict air flow to the carburetor. To prevent
carburetor m alfunction, service the air cleaner regularly. Service m ore
frequently w hen operating the generator in extrem ely dusty areas.
Using gasoline or flammable solvent to clean the air filter can cause a
fire or explosion. Use only soapy water or non-flammable solvent.
Operating the engine w ithout an air filter or w ith a damaged air filter
w ill allow dirt to enter the engine, causing rapid engine w ear. This type
of dam age is not covered by the Distributor's Lim ited Warranty.

Rem ove the w ing nut and the air cleaner cover. Rem ove the
elem ents and separate them . Carefully check both elem ents for
holes or tears and replace if dam aged.

Foam elem ent: Wash the elem ent in a solution of household
detergent and w arm w ater, then rinse thoroughly, or w ash in non-
flam m able or high flash point solvent. Allow the elem ent to dry
thoroughly.
Soak the elem ent in clean engine oil and squeeze out the excess oil.
The engine w ill sm oke during initial start-up if too m uch oil is left in
the foam .

Paper elem ent: Tap the elem ent lightly several tim es on a hard
surface to rem ove excess dirt, or blow com pressed air through the
filter from the inside out. Never try to brush the dirt off; brushing w ill
force dirt into the fibers.
Replace the paper elem ent if it is excessively dirty.
