  • Page 9 • ENGINE POWER DRIVE ■ Fuel supply Fuel tank © with a capacity of 3 lit. (0.8 U .S .g a l/0 .6 6 Imp gal) is located below the seat on the left side. The filler cap is removed by twisting counter clockwise.
  • Page 10 ■ Engine Starting procedure Start the engine by following the procedures in the sequence listed below. (1) . Switch the fuel cock lever to the ON position. (2) For starting a cold engine, raise the choke lever. (3) Set the engine disengaging clutch lever to the ON position (vertical position).

  • Page 12 ■ Riding ° Acceleration, deceleration To accelerate, twist the right hand throttle grip gradually inward; for deceleration, twist outward. ° Pedal assist When riding with a heavy load, with a rear rider, or when climbing a steep grade, the cycling pedal may be used to assist the engine.

  • Page 14 ■ Stopping, parking o Braking When slowing down or stopping the motorcycle, apply the brake levers on both the right and left handle (right side is for the front and left is for the rear brakes) together uniformly. Hold down the decom­ pression lever to stop the engine.

    TOOL KIT The tool kit ® is mounted under the seat at the right side of the fuel tank. Simple adjustments and parts replacement can be performed with the tool in this kit. The more difficult adjustments and repairs which are beyond the scope of the tool kit should be referred to the service dealer.

    M A IN TEN A N CE SCHEDULE Periodic maintenance will not only keep your motorcycle in the peak of condition but will also assure extra long life. Perform the maintenance in accordance with the servicing schedule shown below. Further, refer to the succeeding section for the maintenance procedure.

    M AINTENANCE PROCEDURE • SERVICING AND CHANGING ENGINE OIL ■ Engine oil Replenish the engine oil with quality oil of the proper grade and of the same type, do not dilute the oil by mixing gasoline or kerosene to the oil. Always maintain the engine oil at the proper level, insufficient oil may cause damage to the engine,...

  • Page 21 • THROTTLE CABLE AND DECOMPRESSION LEVER ADJUSTMENT ■ Throttle cable Normal throttle grip free play is approximately 10°. When it is found to be excessive, adjust the throttle cable adjuster ©. To adjust the throttle cable, slide back the rubber cap on the carburetor end of the cable.
  • Page 22 .The normal range of movement of the decompression lever is 1~1.5 cm (0 4 ~ 0 ,6 in). In making the adjustment, loosen the cable lock screw © and perform the adjustment with the cable end (2). Honda dealer will be able to provide you with the most precise adjustment.

  • Page 33 wheel ■ Rear First, loosen the drive chain adjuster nuts ® , remove the rear axle nut (2) and then disconnect the chain by unfastening the drive chain clip. Remove the rear brake adjuster nuts and pull out the axle (3).
  • Page 34 ■ Drive chain installation Loosen the rear axle nut, allowing the ends of the drive chain to be connected with a joint clip. The joint clip © should be installed in the way that the open end will face in the direction opposite to rotation of the chain.
  • Page 35 • DRIVE CHAIN ADJUSTMENT The proper drive chain adjustment is 0 .4 ~ 0 .8 in (1 0 ~ 2 0 m m ) of slack in the chain when checked at a mid-point between the drive and driven sprockets on the lower loop of the chain.   • Page 37 The inspection and adjustments from following section require ex­ perience and special tools to perform, therefore, it is recommended that they be accomplished by your Honda service shop for best result. • VALVE TAPPET CLEARANCE AND ADJUSTMENT (1) Remove the valve tappet cover and flywheel cover.
  • Page 38 If it is necessary to make adjustment, loosen the adjusting screw lock nut © and turn the adjusting screw (3) so that the valve clearance will offer a slight resistance when the thickness gauge is inserted. After completing the adjustment, retighten the adjusting screw lock nut while holding the adjusting screw, to prevent turning.
