    Getting Started Read this first Before you use your phone, you must set it up. Here’s a quick way to set up your phone: Steps 1, 2, and 3. Step 1 (page 5) First, unpack the phone and the supplied accessories.

    Step 2 Setting up the base unit Do the following steps: • Choose the best location • Connect the base unit • Choose the dialing mode Choose the best location Where you place the base unit affects the reception quality of the handset.

  • Page 9 Notes • Use only the supplied AC-T47 AC power adaptor. Do Polarity of the plug not use any other AC power adaptor. • Connect the AC power adaptor to a continuous power supply. • Place the base unit close to the AC outlet so that you can unplug the AC power adaptor easily.

    Step 3 Preparing the battery pack Insert the battery into the handset and charge first before you start using your phone. Slide open the battery compartment lid of the handset. Insert the battery pack into the battery compartment. Close the battery compartment lid.
  • Page 11 Battery duration A fully charged battery pack lasts for about: • 10 hours when you use the handset continuously • one month when the handset is standing by in RING ON mode (the RING ON/BATT SAVE switch is set to RING ON).
  • Page 12 If the battery lasts only a few minutes even after 10 hours of charging, the usable life of the battery has expired and needs replacement. Contact your local Sony authorized dealer or service center, and ask for Sony BP-T40 rechargeable battery pack.

    Making calls (continued) Making another call while talking on the other line You can talk with two parties at the same time using both line 1 and line 2. (Three-way conference) Press (HOLD) while talking on one line. The line in use is put on hold. Press (LINE 1) or (LINE 2), whichever is not used.

    If interference occurs on the handset When you press (LINE 1) or (LINE 2), the handset automatically searches for the channel with the best reception. However, if you notice interference during a conversation, move closer to the base unit. If interference persists, press (CHANNEL) to switch to another channel to improve the sound quality of your telephone conversation.

    Receiving calls When you hear the phone ring; • Press (TALK). • Pick up the handset from the base unit when the handset is placed on the base unit. (LINE 1) The corresponding line lamp lights up, so you can know (LINE 2) which line is used.

    If you don’t want to hear the handset ring, set the RING ON/ BATT SAVE switch to BATT SAVE. In this case, though you can still make or receive calls by pressing (TALK), only the line RING ON/ lamps on the base unit will inform you of incoming calls.     Advanced Features Speed dialing You can dial with a touch of a few keys by storing a phone number on a dialing key. Storing phone numbers Press (PGM). The left lamp flashes. Press (SPEED DIAL). (LINE 2) (LINE 1) Press one of the dialing keys ((0) to (9)) to store a phone (TALK) number on.

    Resetting the digital security code Since a random security code is automatically assigned between the base unit and the handset when you charge the battery pack for the first time, you normally do not need to reset the security code. However, in the unlikely event that you suspect that another cordless phone uses the same security code, you can manually change the code.
