INTRODUCTION _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The Honeywell North Primair 800 Series (PA810EU) is a welding helmet designed for welding and grinding, excluding the gas and laser welding. The welding helmet forms a part of the Primair 500 Series or Primair 700 Series powered
filtering RPD. Used in conjunction with approved Honeywell North filters and approved Honeywell North blower unit, the welding helmet provides respiratory protection against particles as well as the protection for the eyes and face.
Refer to relevant user instructions for specific type of blower unit to ensure the protection level of welding helmet.
Please read these user instructions carefully before use and follow them while using the breathing device. Refer also to the Primair 500 Series or 700 Series user instructions and filter's user instructions. You shall be authorised to use
the loose fitting respiratory interface only after completion of an appropriate training and by following the local work and safety regulations.
HONEYWELL RESPIRATORY SAFETY PRODUCTS is continuously endeavouring to improve all its products and the equipment supplied is subject to change without notice. Consequently, the information, illustrations and descriptions
provided in this document may not be used as a reason to demand the replacement of the equipment, except as covered under the warranty.
The recommendations in boxes have the following meanings:
Procedures and techniques which, if not carefully followed, will expose the user to the risk of serious injury, illness or death.
LIMITS OF PROTECTION AND USAGE _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
These instructions are for experienced personnel, who are adequately trained and are familiar with usage of a breathing device. Each user must fully read, understand and follow these user instructions before use of the breathing device.
HONEYWELL RESPIRATORY SAFETY PRODUCTS accepts no liability if the recommendations contained in this document are not followed.
When wearing the helmet, your eyes are always protected against ultraviolet and infrared radiation, regardless of the shade level. To protect the rest of your body, appropriate protective clothing must also be worn. In some circumstances,
particles and substances released by the welding process can trigger allergic skin reactions in correspondingly predisposed persons. Materials that come into contact with skin may cause allergic reactions to susceptible persons.
If additional body protection is desired, the 800 Series welding helmet can be fitted with an optional leather chest or head/neck protector.
1) Failure to follow these instructions and warnings may result in exposure to hazardous materials, exposing the user to the risk of serious injury, illness or death.
2) Use this breathing device only with approved filters that matches to the contaminants from which you need protection.
3) Never use this breathing device:
• To perform or observe sand-blasting/abrasive-blasting;
• To fight fires;
• In any atmosphere having less than 17% oxygen by volume at sea level;
• In atmospheres where the concentrations of toxic contaminants are unknown, or are Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH).
4) This breathing device will not protect exposed areas of face or body from particles. You must wear additional hand and/or body protection.
5) Do not use the device with the blower unit switched off. It will not provide any respiratory protection in power-off state. A rapid build-up of carbon dioxide and depletion of oxygen within the respiratory interface
may occur.
6) The pressure in the device may become negative at peak inhalation flow at very high work rates.
7) Do not use where high wind velocities exist. Protection factor may be affected.
8) The device contains electrical parts which may cause an ignition in flammable or explosive atmospheres.
9) Do not alter or modify this device in any way. Any alterations or modifications, including painting, affixing labels or using unapproved replacement parts can reduce protection and expose the user to the risk of
illness, bodily injury or death.
10) Use of spare parts, components or accessories other than those manufactured by HONEYWELL RESPIRATORY SAFETY PRODUCTS can endanger the correct system operation, lead to the damage of the device
malfunction and may damage the health of user.
11) HONEYWELL RESPIRATORY SAFETY PRODUCTS assumes no liability when the welding helmet is used for purposes other than intended. The helmet is suitable for all established welding procedures, excluding
gas and laser welding. Please note the recommended protection level in accordance with EN 169:2002 on the cover.
PRE-USE INSTRUCTIONS _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Inspection
Inspect the welding helmet for any wear and tear or damage. If any part of the complete RPD is missing, damaged or worn out, replace it or tag it and remove from service. Verify specifically that:
• The hood and selected filters provide in conjunction with the blower unit protection corresponding to the categories of faced hazard.
• The filters are attached to the blower unit.
• The blower unit is working correctly; check (for details refer to the blower unit's user instructions):
Ƕ the sufficient air supply,
Ƕ the battery is fully charged,
Ƕ the alarms, if present.
SETUP OF THE WELDING HELMET ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Refer to the shade level chart prepared in accordance with EN 169:2002 for seeing the recommended scale numbers to be used for electric arc welding or air-arc gouging (Fig. 1).
HEAD SUSPENSION HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Set the headgear height adjustment so that the headband rests at a comfortable height above your ears and so the sweatbands are positioned on your forehead. To adjust, pull out the locking pin and slide the two sections apart or towards one
another. Push the locking pin back into place.
DISTANCE FROM THE EYES AND HELMET ANGLE
To adjust the distance between the Auto Darkening Filter (hereinafter ADF) and the eyes, release the locking knobs slightly. Adjust both sides equally and do not tilt. Then tighten the locking knobs again. To adjust the helmet angle use the rotary knob.
SHADE LEVEL
The shade level can be changed by turning the knob from shade level SL8 to SL12 according to standard EN 379:2003+A1:2009.
GRINDING MODE
In grinding mode, the ADF is deactivated and the shade level is set at 2.5. This makes it much easier to see the work, without having to lift the helmet.
To activate grinding mode, press the grind button on the outside of the helmet. When the ADF is in grinding mode, a red LED inside the helmet will begin to flash. To deactivate grinding mode, press the grind button again. After 10 minutes, the
grinding mode is automatically deactivated.
SENSITIVITY
Use the sensitivity knob to set the ambient light sensitivity. The position "Super High" is the standard sensitivity setting.
DETECTION ANGLE
The sensor slider controls the angular field of light detection. The slider is located on the front of the ADF and can be set in one of two positions.
1) In wide mode (<-->): the angle of detection is 80 degrees.
2) In narrow mode (-><-): the angle of detection is reduced to 60 degrees.
SENSOR DELAY
The "Delay" control located on the inside of the ADF allows you to set a time delay from dark to light ranging from 0.05 to 1 second. Adjust the delay setting using the control knob on the inside of the ADF.
SLEEP MODE
The ADF has an automatic switch-off function, which increases the battery life. If the ADF does not detect light in excess of 1 Lux for approximately 10 minutes, it automatically switches off to preserve battery life. To reactivate the ADF, it must be
briefly exposed to daylight. If the ADF cannot be reactivated or does not darken when the welding arc is ignited, the batteries must be replaced.
Check the operation of the ADF before attempting to weld. If the ADF is not functioning properly, replace the batteries or the ADF. Failure to replace a malfunctioning ADF can result in serious injury.
OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Neck and chest shroud
To attach the head and neck shroud, firmly push each of the rubber strips on the head shroud over both side edges of the helmet air inlet. Attach the neck shroud to the two velcro tabs located on the underside of the head shroud.
To attach the chest shroud, firmly push the entire length of rubber strip of the chest shroud over the front edge of the welding helmet.
Breathing hose cover
To protect the breathing hose from sparks, slag and radiant heat, use the optional cover. The cover slides over the breathing hose before connecting the tube to the blower or helmet. Use the velcro straps to keep it from sliding.
DONNING _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
1) Being in safe and uncontaminated area, assemble the blower unit and check first if the blower unit is working properly. Verify the air flow (refer to your blower unit user instructions).
2) Prepare the welding helmet (refer to the aforementioned chapter).
3) Insert the breathing hose blower-side connector into the red port on the top of the blower unit by lining up the posts on the connector with the notches in the port. Lock the breathing tube by rotating the connector clockwise 90 degrees until
it locks in place. Once installed, pull gently on the hose connector to verify it is secure. Install the optional cover.
