7-1. Connecting the Power Cable and
the UPS
UPS (Uninterruptied Power Supply)
The UPS is used to prevent data from damage in the case
of power failure or power trouble. If power supply from
the main power source is stopped while the main power is
supplied through the UPS, the battery inside the UPS is
tuned on and PetaSite continues operations for about five
minutes after the power failure subject that the power load
capacity of the UPS is 1000 VA.
The PetaSite80/150 series is designed to prevent data and
console from damage in the case of power failure or
trouble with power supply even if the UPS is not used.
However, if the PetaSite is to be installed in an area where
power failure is likely to happen, it is recommended to use
the UPS in order to improve reliability of the system in
case of power failure or trouble with power supply.
Connecting the UPS to the PetaSite80/150 series with the
UPS cable enables that the UPS status is monitored and the
robot is shut down automatically when the power failure is
detected.
n
When connecting the UPS to s single robot of the PetaSite
and the UPS status is monitored from PetaSite, the PetaSite
shuts down the robot and the main power of its own
regardless of the status of the PSC and DTF tape drive.
To execute the shutting-down processing including the
DTF tape drive in the case of power failure, it is recom-
mended to back up the main power of the PSC and DTF
tape drive with the UPS and to monitor the status of the
UPS from the PSC.

required specifications differ depending on the processing time of shut-
down.
Select the UPS specifications that satisfy the processing time to shut
down.
*2 : To shut down the entire system including the PSC and DTF tape drive,
the parallel interface between the UPS and PetaSite is not required.
Use the PSC interface (interface for Windows NT or serial interface for
Solaris).
