    1 • Getting started Read the safety instructions in the "Precautions" section before use. First steps To use your phone, you must insert a valid SIM card supplied by your GSM operator or reseller. The SIM card contains your subscription, your own phone number, and a memory in which you can store phone numbers and messages (see “Names, calls and messages”...

    PIN2 code and PUK2 code Depending on your SIM card, some features or options may require a PIN2 secret code. This is a second secret 4 to 8-digit code given to you by your service provider. If you enter a wrong PIN2 code 3 times, your SIM card is blocked. To unblock it, you must request the PUK2 code from your operator or reseller.

    2 • Main features Idle screen After switching your phone on and entering the PIN code (see page 4), your phone displays the idle screen which means that it is ready to be used. In idle mode, up to 13 symbols can be displayed (max. 8 simultaneously in idle mode). If the n symbol isn’t displayed, the network is not currently available.

    3 • Menus tree Easy to find and simple to use via the compass key, the menus contain all your GSM phone functions. All the menus have icons or scrollable lists and are used in the same way. The messages displayed on the screen explain to you what to do. Press , or C to enter a menu or sub-menu, move + or - to scroll in a list and press , to validate an entry or to confirm a choice.

    4 • Settings Introduction the settings related to each available option by defining Personnal settings. In idle mode, press the C key to enter the main menu, move + or - to select Settings, then press ,. Move + or - to browse the available features, press , to enter an option and to change it as described further in the present chapter.

    This service is subscription dependent; you can only send melodies that are out of copyright or that you created yourself. You can add a ringer melody to the messages you send (see “Call a correspondent” page 38). The receiver must have a Philips mobile phone to be able to hear the melody sent.

    Vibrator Allows you to activate/deactivate the vibrating alert when receiving a call. Vibrator Display This menu allows you to set the zoom, backlight, contrast and screen animation. Zoom Allows you to activate/deactivate the zoom function which applies to the text used with the menus.

    5 • Names, calls and m essages Introduction enter correspondents: their name and their phone, fax or data number. The number of names your phonebook can store depends on the card capacity. The SIM card capacity depends on the type of card you have. Please check with your local dealer or operator for complete information on this subject.
