  • Page 171: Chapter 4 Configure Quality Of Service

Configure Quality of Service In a switch, each physical port consists of one or more queues for transmitting packets on the attached network. Multiple queues per port are often provided to give preference to certain packets over others based on user-defined criteria. When a packet is queued for transmission in a port, the rate at which it is serviced depends on how the queue is configured and possibly the amount of traffic present in the other queues of the port.

S350 Series 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Pro Switch Models GS308T and GS310TP Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) A local area network (LAN) can generally be defined as a broadcast domain. Hubs, bridges, or switches in the same physical segment or segments connect all end node devices. End nodes can communicate with each other without the need for a router.

  • Page 327: Access Control Lists (Acls)

S350 Series 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Pro Switch Models GS308T and GS310TP Access Control Lists (ACLs) ACLs ensure that only authorized users can access specific resources while blocking off any unwarranted attempts to reach network resources. ACLs are used to provide traffic flow control, restrict contents of routing updates, decide which types of traffic are forwarded or blocked, and provide security for the network.

S350 Series 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Pro Switch Models GS308T and GS310TP The switch supports DiffServ. S350 Series 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Pro Switch Models GS308T and GS310TP Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) runs on bridged networks to help eliminate loops. If a bridge loop occurs, the network can become flooded with traffic. IEEE 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) supports multiple instances of spanning tree to efficiently channel VLAN traffic over different interfaces.
