Reference Guide for the Model RM356 Modem Router

Network Checklist

The Model RM356 Modem Router uses the Internet Protocol (IP). The IP configuration has the
following requirements:
All host devices must have TCP/IP installed and selected as the networking protocol.
All host devices including the router must be assigned IP addresses. If your ISP or network
administrator has not assigned these, use private addresses. If you are using the DHCP
function of the router, you can have these addresses assigned automatically by the router.
All host devices must have the IP address of the router defined either as the default gateway or
as an entry in the static routes table. If you are using the DHCP function of the router, this
gateway IP address is assigned automatically by the router.
The network portion of the IP addresses must be different on the Local and Remote networks
you are routing between.
If you do not have any assigned IP addresses, you must use NAT. In this case, assign IP addresses
from a group of designated private IP addresses. Refer to
