ISSU states

The ISSU upgrade process is accomplished through the execution of a series of commands, which must
be executed in a specific sequence. The display issu state command displays the current ISSU state,
upgrade version, old version, version compatibility state, and upgrade method to determine the next
operation to be executed. During the ISSU upgrade process, the switch may be in one of the four states

Selecting an ISSU upgrade method

When a new version is uploaded, to check the compatibility between the system software image to be
upgraded and the currently running system software image, use the display version comp-matrix file
upgrading-filename command. Then select the appropriate ISSU upgrade method according to one of
the following version compatibility check results:
Compatible
Incompatible
Same
Unknown
The following sections describe the ISSU upgrade method for each version.
NOTE:
The version compatibility check for an LPU can have either of the following results:
Hotfix—Upgrades an LPU through a hotfix. The LPU is not rebooted during the upgrade process, and the
data traffic that passes through the LPU is not interrupted.
Reboot—Reboots an LPU to upgrade it. The data traffic that passes through the LPU is interrupted for a
short time during the upgrade process.
