HARD STARTING OR STALLS AFTER STARTING

Possible Cause
Choke OFF.
Throttle grip not in START position.
Fuel valve lever is not turned to the appropriate position.
Fuel vent closed (internal fuel tank).
When using the portable fuel tank (BF5D and BF6A), fuel
vent closed (portable fuel tank).
When using the portable fuel tank (BF5D and BF6A), fuel
hose not primed.
Fuel filter or fuel tank filter restricted.
Bad fuel; outboard motor stored without treating or
draining gasoline, or refueled with bad fuel.
TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
Pull choke knob to ON position, unless engine is warm
(p. 42).
Turn throttle grip to START position (p. 42).
Turn the fuel valve lever to the appropriate position
(p. 19).
Turn the internal fuel tank vent knob counterclockwise to
the open position (p. 21).
Turn the portable fuel tank vent knob counterclockwise to
the open position (p. 26).
Squeeze priming bulb (p. 38).
Replace restricted f ilters (p. 73 or 75).
Drain fuel tank and carburetor (p. 83). Ref ill with fresh
gasoline (p. 69).
