Installing or Replacing a Supervisor Module

The switch can operate with one or two supervisor modules installed in the chassis. If there are two supervisor
modules, you can remove the standby supervisor and replace it with another supervisor. If you start to remove
the active supervisor, the switch automatically makes the other supervisor active and makes the module that
you are removing the standby supervisor. If the switch has only one installed supervisor module, you can
install the new supervisor in the empty supervisor slot during operations.
Blank faceplates and cover panels serve three important functions: they prevent exposure to hazardous

voltages and currents inside the chassis; they contain electromagnetic interference (EMI) that might disrupt
other equipment; and they direct the flow of cooling air through the chassis. Do not operate the system
unless all cards, faceplates, front covers, and rear covers are in place.
