Drive Belts

POWER STEERING

COMPRESSOR BELT
Check the condition of the two or
three drive belts. Examine the edges
of each belt for cracks or fraying.
Check the tension of each belt by
pushing on it with your thumb
midway between the pulleys.

The belts should have the following
"play" or deflection.
Alternator belt:
(VTEC)
7.0—10.5 mm (0.28-0.41 in)
(S,Si)
8.0—10.5 mm (0.31—0.41 in)
Power steering belt:
(VTEC)
7.5—11.0 mm (0.30— 0.43 in)
(S, Si)
10.5 — 14.0mm (0.41 — 0.55 in)
On cars with Air Conditioning
Compressor belt:
(VTEC)
6.0 — 9.5 mm (0.24 — 0.37 in)
(S, Si)
7.5 — 9.5 mm (0.30 — 0.37 in)
If you see signs of wear or looseness,
have your dealer adjust or replace
the belts.

must be the proper type and size, in
good condition with adequate tread,
and correctly inflated. The following
