Procedure 8
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if loose connectors and cables attached to the
system board or improper jumper settings are causing the system to malfunction. To perform
this procedure, perform the following check.
Check
(A) Lift and reconnect all ICs, PCB edge connectors, and cable connectors on the
system board. (B) Verify that all jumpers are properly configured (refer to
Appendix B). (C) Reboot the system.
If a memory error is reported, perform Procedure 16. If a memory error is not
reported, perform the Repair Completion Process.
Procedure 9
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the system can properly boot from the FDD.
To perform this procedure, perform the following Check.
Check
(A) Insert a known good bootable MS-DOS diskette into the FDD. (B) Restart the
computer and boot from the FDD. (C) Examine the screen to determine if an error
message displays.
If an error message displays, perform Procedure 2. If an error message does not
display, perform Procedure 10.
Procedure 10
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if a diagnostics program can identify system
board problems. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and continue as instructed.
NOTE: Some diagnostics programs do not test all the FRUs. Therefore, if the
system passes diagnostic testing, a problem could still exist with any of the FRUs
not tested.
Check 1
Run the diagnostics program (refer to Chapter 3).
If the system passes diagnostic testing, perform Check 2. If the system does not
pass diagnostic testing, perform Check 3.
Check 2
Determine if the problem is related to the display.
If the problem is related to the display, perform the Monitor Troubleshooting
Process. If the problem is not related to the display, perform Procedure 11.
Check 3
Determine if the diagnostic-reported error is HDD related.
If the error is HDD related, perform the HDD Troubleshooting Process. If the
error is not HDD related, perform Check 4.
Check 4
Determine if the diagnostic-reported error is FDD related.
If the error is FDD related, perform the FDD Troubleshooting Process. If the
error is not FDD related, perform Procedure 11.
