Interactive State and Timing Measurements
INTRODUCTION
Chapter 7
Interactive State and Timing Measurements
The analyzer can perform simultaneous state and timing measurements when in interactive state and timing
mode . The capabilities of the analyzer are nearly the same as when performing dedicated state or timing
measurements . The analysis mode named as master finds the specified trigger point and arms the second
analysis mode . If the second analyzer is set in a free-run mode, it effectively is triggered by the master analyzer .
By using the interactive analysis modes, asynchronous and synchronous signals from the target system may
be correlated .
THE FORMAT SPECIFICATION
The FORMAT Specification menus for [State] and [Timing] will show only the probe bits assigned to each
analysis function . The capabilities and limitations of the Format Specification menus are the same as when
performing state-only or timing-only measurements .
THE TRACE SPECIFICATION
The TRACE Specification for [State] and [Timing] is the same as described in chapter 4 for state
measurements and in chapter 6 for timing measurements except for operating modes and the Master field .
Operating Modes:
1 .
[Single/Continous/Compare] in the 1630A/D .
2 .
[Single/Continous/Edit or Full Compare] in the 1630G .
3 .
Both state and timing analyzers operate in the same mode . [Overview]
performance analysis measurements not available in the interactive state/timing
mode .
Master :
Selects one analysis function, either state or timing, to look for its trigger before the
other can look for a trigger.
INTERACTIVE STATE/TIMING DISPLAYS
The information available in LIST and WFORM displays is the same as in the dedicated [State] and [Timing]
modes. The XY CHART displays are the same as in dedicated [State] or [Timing] modes. Overview histogram
displays are not available when the analyzer is used for interactive state/timing measurements .
INTERACTIVE STATE/TIMING TRIGGERING
When making a combined measurement, one of the measurement functions will be designated Masterand the
other one Slave. When a trace begins, the Master will look for its trigger and the Slave will be disabled . When
the Master finds its trigger, it will send the "trigger found" information to the Slave. This will allow the Slave to
look for its trigger .
The trigger points in the state and timing memories will be nearly the same points in time as long as the
measurement function performing as slave has a "don't care" trigger. Except for the trigger point, there will be
no correlation between states stored in the state memory and points of activity stored in the timing memory .
