7.3 Microsoft Linkage
■ Windows Server 2012
The ETERNUS DX Disk storage system supports the following functions in Windows Server 2012.
• Offloaded Data Transfer (ODX)
This function offloads the processing load for copying and transferring files from the server CPU
to the storage system.
• Space Reclamation
This function automatically releases areas that are no longer used by the OS or applications.
The ETERNUS DX Disk storage system firmware version must be V10L40 or later to use the linkage functions
with Windows Server 2012.
The firmware version can be checked via ETERNUS Web GUI or ETERNUS CLI. When upgrading firmware is
required, contact your sales representative.
■ System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
System Center is a platform to manage operations of data centers and clouds. This platform
also provides an integrated tool set for the management of applications and services.
SCVMM, a component of the System Center 2012 product, performs integrated management of
virtualized environments. The ETERNUS DX Disk storage system can be managed from SCVMM by using the
SMI-S functions of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.
■ Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)
This service is performed in combination with the backup software and the server applications that are
compatible with Windows Server VSS while online backups are performed via the Advanced Copy function for
the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.
ETERNUS VSS Hardware Provider is required to use this function.
An Advanced Copy Feature License is required to use the VSS copy function.
