7 Troubleshooting

This chapter provides some guidelines for troubleshooting Integrated RA.

Modem

The external modem is not responding to Integrated RA.
Make sure you are using the proper cable to connect the Integrated RA to the
modem. For more information, see the section "Connecting through an External
Modem," in Chapter 3 of this document.
My external modem is not on the tested list. Can I still use it?
You can attempt to use a modem that's not on the list, but there is no guarantee that
it will work with Integrated RA. For more information on setting up
communications with an external modem, refer to the modem vendor's web site or
related topics on HP NetServer web site (www.hp.com/netserver).
I already have an internal modem installed in my server. Can I use it with Integrated
RA?
No. There is no way to configure an internal modem to work with Integrated RA.

Paging

I generated a Test Page from Integrated RA Configuration Utility, but never received
it.
Has a pager number and paging string been set up in Integrated RA Configuration
Utility? Also check if the telephone cord is properly connected to the external
modem.
If your pager service generates repetitive tones when it answers, the Integrated RA
modem may interpret the tones as a busy signal and attempt to re-dial. To prevent
this, change the X4 command in the modem initialization string to X0 (blind
dialing).
The following event codes indicate conditions that interfere with successful
paging.
20201: Modem Error
Event code 20201 occurs when one of the following conditions is detected:
