Using Internet Stream Sockets
NOTE
Release 10.10 and later releases support two variations of sockets
behavior: classic HP-UX sockets and X/Open sockets. By default, users
receive classic HP-UX sockets. To use X/Open sockets, users must make
an addition to their make files by including the "-l xnet" argument with
the "c89" or "cc" utilities.
Users may also use the "lint" utility to check for possible violations to the
X/Open sockets specification by including "-l xnet" to the argument list of
the lint utility.
Users must also define the following for X/Open sockets behavior:
• _XOPEN_SOURCE;
• _XOPEN_SOURCE_EXTENDED = 1
See Appendix A for a table which summarizes the differences in calls for
the two variations of sockets behavior. A quick reference card listing
these call differences is also available. For detailed information about
HP-UX sockets, see the remainder of this manual as well as the man
pages. For detailed information about X/Open sockets, see "CAE
Specification, Networking Services, Issue 4, X/Open" and the man pages.
This chapter describes creating an internet stream socket connection
using the AF_INET address family.
