  • Page 10 A prerequisite for using this manual to service Dell computer systems is a basic ® knowledge of IBM -compatible PCs and prior training in IBM-compatible PC troubleshooting techniques. In addition to information provided in this manual and the User’s Guide that came with the system, Dell provides the Installation and Troubleshooting Guide for troubleshooting procedures and instructions on using the Dell Diagnostics to test the computer system.

The PowerEdge 2300 systems are freestanding or can be rackmounted for integrating your servers. The microprocessor(s) are mounted in modules on the system board, which allows for greater heat dissipation.

  • Page 14 The 72-bit-wide, unbuffered DIMMs support the ECC feature, which detects memory errors and corrects single-bit memory errors. Proceed to the next section, “Observing the Boot Routine.” After you have performed an external visual inspection as described in the pre- vious section, you should boot the system and, while the boot routine is running, observe the system for any indications of problems.
