1. FEATURES
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The 540EZ system is a high powered clip-on flash unit with full power GNo = 28 to 54 (at
ISO 100em ). Characteristically, this system is a top-class flash unit that features ten
new or improved functions based or the desires and opinions of current users of the
430EZ, and that answers user complaints about the 430EZ with regard to operating per-
formance. In particular, this system gives advanced flash photography due to its compat-
ibility with 5-point focusing and 3-point TTL metering when mounted on the EOS-1N.

Built-in wide panel provides coverage for 18mm super-wide-angle.
Quick auto zooming covers wide-angle 24 mm to medium-telephoto 105 mm
in less than 0.8 sec (at normal temperature)
A-TTL auto flash control, TTL auto flash control system
* When this flash unit is mounted on the EOS-1N, 3-zone auto flash expo-
sure control is coupled to the 5-point focusing.
Auto flash confidence lamp verifies exposure immediately after shooting.
AF auxiliary light compatible with 5-point focusing is incorporated.
(Effective distance-- center; 0.5m to 15m; Outside: 0.7m to 6m)
Three types of external power packs are available depending upon market
area: . The Laminate Pack E, Transistor Pack E or Compact Battery Pack E.
Quick charging with all power sources.
Independent flash exposure compensation can be performed in the range of
+3 stops in increments of 1/3 stops, giving a wide range of possibilities.
* When this system is mounted on the EOS-1N or EOS5, auto flash control
exposure level can be compensated from the camera also.
Eight-step (Full to 1/128) manual flash and 1 to 100 Hz / 31-step multi-
flash control.
* Flashes per burst (1 to 100 / 31 steps) can also be set.
Shoe lock (lock pin operated in connection with a clamping ring)
. Large, easy to read display using an LCD with built-in uniform electrolumi-
nescent illumination.
First curtain sync or second curtain sync can be selected.
. Bounce is possible.
* Right: 60° to 90° / Left: 60° to 180°/ Upward: 60° - 90° / H Downward: 7°
* Locking at the upward / downward or left/right 0° position and upward
90° position (Lock is released by pressing the relevant unlock button.)
Built-in SE function that turns off the power source automatically in 90 sec
* The SE function can be cancelled by the main switch.
High-level flash lighting can be performed by using multi-flash photographic
system accessories.
