7 Evaluate the test result
– The flash frequency should be assessed and compared to the basic flash frequency which
occurred when the predistortion was switched off.
– If the flash frequencies indicate only a little difference between the results of two
measurements, the lower predistortion should be set.
8 If necessary, switch off the TT, set a different predistortion and repeat the test.

Switching off the transmitter and full-duplex/ half-duplex mode

When RTS=ON, the transmitter switches on. The modem replies with CTS=ON if the carrier settled
and it is ready to transmit. If the CTS is not evaluated, it is necessary to wait for the necessary
period of time before the first signal may be transmitted (Tab. 18).

The modem will run in the half-duplex mode if:
• the transmitter and the receiver operate on the same channel and a two-wire line is connected.
• the transmitter and the receiver operate on different channels, but several transmitters are
operated in parallel (multi-drop line).
In case half-duplex mode is configured, the modem switches its receiver off with RTS=ON. The
other side must wait until the time between RTS=OFF and readiness for reception (Tab. 18) has
elapsed before the first character may be transmitted.

Automatic transmitter switch off offers the possibility to have the transmitter switched off by the
modem after a defined period of time. This time is defined by the bit rate which is set (configured
parameter auto) or a value between 0 and 100 s. The transmitter is switched on with RTS=ON and
switched off by the modem after n seconds at the latest. Depending on the bit rate, the time n is 2
to 16 seconds. The maximum transmission length (number of characters) should be observed. The
channel delay times should be taken into account as well.
