To which products this chapter applies This chapter applies to the DCS800-EP... Size D1 to D4. Use of warnings and notes There are two types of safety instructions throughout this manual: warnings and notes.
  • Page 3 DCS800-EP Installation and Start-Up Manual • Do not make any insulation or voltage withstand tests on the drive or drive modules. • When reconnecting the motor cable, always check that the C1 and D1 terminal is correct. Note: • The motor cable terminals on the drive are at a dangerously high voltage when the input power is on, regardless of whether the motor is running or not.
  • Page 4: Mechanical Installation

Use appropriate lifting techniques. Do not lift the unit by the front cover. Place the unit only on its back. • DCS800-EP Frames C and D: The drive is heavy. Lift the drive by the lifting lugs only.
  • Page 5: Operation

DCS800-EP Installation and Start-Up Manual Operation These warnings are intended for all who plan the operation of the drive or operate the drive. Ignoring the instructions can cause physical injury or death or damage the equipment. • Before adjusting the drive and putting it into service, make sure that the motor and all driven equipment are suitable for operation throughout the speed range provided by the drive.

  • Page 12: Requirements For Installation

DCS800-EP Installation and Start-Up Manual Requirements for installation The drive must be installed in an upright position within a cabinet or other enclosure. The cabinet size, heat dissipation capability and clearances must conform to the requirements below. Refer to Dimensional drawings for frame details.
  • Page 13: Cabinet Cooling And Air Flow

DCS800-EP Installation and Start-Up Manual Cabinet cooling and air flow Cabinets must be sized to accommodate minimum clearances as described in the previous section and in the DCS800 Hardware Manual. The maximum interior cabinet ambient temperature must not exceed 40°C.
  • Page 14: Planning The Electrical Installation

This chapter contains the instructions for selecting the cables, cable routing and line reactors for the drive panel. Always follow local regulations. Note: If the recommendations given by ABB are not followed, the drive may experience problems that are not necessarily covered by the warranty.
  • Page 15 DCS800-EP Installation and Start-Up Manual Line reactors (cont) Configuration C If an isolation transformer is used, it is possible to comply with certain connecting conditions per Configuration B without using an additional line reactor. The condition described in Configuration A will then likewise be satisfied, since the u is >1 %.
