Temporary actions in emergency
4. The unaffected engine's shift, throttle
and steering will operate within the nor-
mal parameters. Use the steering and
remote control levers to operate the
unaffected engine(s) and return to port.
Note, the steering response may be
sluggish. The affected engine's steering
will be moved by the water flowing past
the lower unit. The affected engine will
remain in neutral even if the shift/throttle
lever for that engine is placed in forward
(F) or reverse (R).
■ When the steering response becomes
slow
To prevent the steering pump from overheat-
ing, the steering response becomes slow,
and a window appears in the display.
Pressing the "SET" button closes the win-
dow. A Helm Master control system trouble
alert will be displayed in the alert display
area for all outboard motors if a steering
pump is likely to overheat.

If a steering pump should overheat, steering
response will temporarily be slowed to allow
the pump temperature to reduce to a normal
level.
TIP:
• When the steering pump has cooled down,
the Helm Master control system trouble
alert will be cleared from the display and
the steering will return to normal response.
• The steering response also becomes slow
when voltage becomes too high or too low.
