A notice of intention to install may be requested by the local Municipal Authority. The Newburn is suitable for burning dry wood only and is not designed to burn briquettes or coal. Severe damage will result if fossil fuels or accelerants are used.

350 mm diameter. It is essential that at least five 300 x 100 floor outlets be left open at all times otherwise the Newburn will overheat which will cause damage to the heat exchanger.
  • Page 4: Maintenance

MAINTENANCE The important thing to remember about your NEWBURN is that it is a woodheater. As such it has the same potential problems and maintenance requirements as any woodheater.  Check regularly that the combustion damper is working correctly and is unobstructed.
  • Page 6: Lighting The Fire

COMBUSTION AIR DAMPER OPERATION The Combustion Air damper is the heart of the NEWBURN as it controls the amount of air for combustion and therefore fire size. The damper is controlled by the room thermostat to open when the room temperature falls below what the thermostat has been set and to close when the desired temperature is reached.

SUPPLY AIR FAN OPERATION The Supply Air Fan is automatically controlled by an inbuilt furnace thermostat to operate only when the fire box temperature is sufficient. It may therefore cycle on and off, particularly during slow combustion periods, in response to the firebox temperature.
  • Page 8: Do's And Don'ts

DO’S AND DON’T’S Do not burn green firewood Do not overload the firebox Do not use the heater to burn rubbish Do not leave the heater unattended with the firebox door open Do not allow ash to build up so that the red hot coals are burning against the steel sides of the heat exchange.
  • Page 9 CLEANING OUT YOUR NEWBURN THIS JOB IS BEST DONE AFTER AN OVERNIGHT BURN. 1. Allow the fire to burn down so there is not much unburned wood left and turn down the room thermostat. 2. Open the firebox door and using a metal fire shovel push the hot coals to one side of the firebox through opening and scrape the remaining ash out into a metal container, leaving unburned wood and hot coals to one side.
