This guide covers the operation of the GoPro Hero 3+ camera with software version 2.0 For different software versions some settings may be different. Although it refers directly to the Black Edition of the camera it is also valid for the White and Silver Editions, the only difference is that those have some limitations regarding formats, frame rates, etc…...

LCD Touch BacPac If you mount the optional Lcd Touch Screen you will not use the camera buttons except for turning the camera On/Off. Once mounted it gives access to all camera functions. The only physical button is ON/ OFF / PLAY. Press and hold to turn the Lcd On/Off, not the camera.

Connexions On the left side, where the micro SD card slot is, the camera has 2 connexions:MINI HDMI & MINI USB. Mini HDMI: with a mini Hdmi to regular Hdmi cable you can connect the camera to a HD television and watch the live image and the Playback (see card 21).

Power The camera kit comes with a battery that runs the camera recording continuously for 100min (around 2.5h shooting Time-Lapse and around 3.5h in Stand By) and takes about 120min to fully charge. To charge the battery connect the camera to your computer using the Usb cable, the red front led will remain On while charging.

Although your area is PAL, the NTSC mode reaches higher fps in video formats like 720 (100fps for PAL and 120fps(actually 119,8) for NTSC). Format & Operation with micro SD cards To record images you must insert a micro SD card in the camera (it is sold separately) up to 64Gb. The most important spec is the card speed. You can consult the recommended cards in the GoPro official website.
If you shot a long Time-lapse it will create several folders to contain the large amount of photos (these folder do have different names though. - For an easy “intake” of your images in your GoPro Studio editing software select the whole folder and it will know what is what in the card.

Playback You can Playback connecting the optional Lcd Touch BacPac or a HDTV via HDMI or RCA cable. Only in those cases the Playback screen will appear after the Settings screen With the Lcd Touch BacPac press the physical PLAYBACK button in the right side of it.

This provides well exposed and consistent images, but if for example you shot inside a room pointing to a window the camera may expose the image for the interior leaving the exterior too bright.

Looks great but why don´t use 1080/60-50fps/Wide instead. 720/100-120fps/ Wide Jagged edges and some aliasing present. Good for You Tube. No aliasing. No lens distortion. Clean. Doesn´t look like a Gopro. Very 720/100-120fps/ Narrow good for web. You´ll note the softness of the Narrow FOV.
