Troubleshooting

Problem
Nothing happens when
the trigger is pulled.
LED comes on, but bar
code does not decode.
Bar code reading ability
has degraded.
Bar code is decoded
but not transmitted to
the host.

Possible Cause
No power to the
reader.
Interface or power
cables are loose.
Reader not pro-
grammed for correct
bar code type.
Bar code label is
unreadable.
Distance between
reader and bar code
is incorrect.
Scan Window has
become dirty.
Reader not pro-
grammed for the cor-
rect host type.

Possible Solutions
Check system power.
Ensure power supply is
connected.
Ensure all cable connec-
tions are secure.
Ensure reader is pro-
grammed to read the type
of bar code scanned.
Refer to the Product Ref-
erence Guide (PRG) for
more information.
Check the label to ensure
it is not defaced. Try scan-
ning another bar code
type.
Move reader closer to or
further from the bar code.
Clean window using a
soft, lint-free cloth damp-
ened with water.
Scan the appropriate host
type bar code. Refer to the
Product Reference Guide
(PRG) for more informa-
tion.
