maintenance tips
maintaining your transport chair
Proper care and maintenance is important in order
to keep your Transport Chair in good working con-
dition. Be sure that your chair is in proper working
condition at all times. A qualified dealer or repair
center (wheelchair rental dealer) should be con-
sulted for periodic inspections and repairs.
1. At least once a week, wipe off chrome using a
clean soft cloth. If the chair is exposed to moisture,
dry the chair immediately. The metal parts of the
chair should be polished once a month with an auto
wax.
2. Clean the upholstery with a mild soap solution,
rinse and wipe dry. Worn or torn upholstery should
be replaced promptly as it may not support your
body weight.
3. Inspect the wheels at least once a month. Correct
any side play by loosening the lock nut on the axle,
then tighten the axle just enough to remove side
play.
4. Solid rubber tires require limited upkeep, but
need to be cleaned periodically with a damp cloth.
Solid rubber tires need to be replaced if they
become cracked or severely worn.

Questions and answers
My wife's Drive transport chair will not open or close -- it is stuck half way how can I fix it?
If your Drive Expedition Aluminum Transport Chair is stuck halfway and will not open or close, try the following steps:
1. Inspect for Obstructions – Check if any objects or debris are blocking the folding mechanism.
2. Check the Seat Rails – Ensure the seat rails are fully pushed down and not caught in a halfway position.
3. Verify the Backrest Lock – Make sure the back support is either fully locked upright or fully folded down.
4. Examine the Tabs – If collapsing, push the tabs on the handle and ensure they release properly.
5. Lubricate Moving Parts – If the mechanism is stiff, apply a small amount of lubricant to the hinges.
6. Apply Gentle Pressure – Try gently pressing or pulling different parts to help them move into position.
If the chair remains stuck, inspect for any visible damage or misalignment and contact the manufacturer for further assistance.
