T1/PRI or E1/PRI Networking

T1/PRI or E1/PRI Networking

A T1/PRI or E1/PRI connection can be used for connecting two system nodes in a network.
Each network span requires two T1M or T1M-2 modules, one for each end of the span. Point-
to-point clear channel T1 spans are used to connect the nodes. For each network span, order a
clear channel, point-to-point T1 span from the service provider (not PRI service, even though
you will be using T1/PRI or E1/PRI). The following figure illustrates a sample T1/PRI
connection.
Figure A-2.
In a T1/PRI or E1/PRI network that involves multiple CO and T1M or T1M-2 module
connections, the line buildout is determined by each connection. In the example shown above,
the two T1M or T1M-2 modules connected to the CO receive reference clock from the public
network and are slave clocks (Slaves to Public Network Setting in DB Programming). The two
modules that are connecting the Inter-Tel systems do not draw reference clock from the public
network. T1/PRI #2 on system #1 is the master clock (Master for Private Network setting in DB
Programming) and T1/PRI #1 on system #2 is a slave clock (Slave for Private Network setting in
DB Programming).
To install a network, you need the following:
Installation recommendations include the following:
The network does not allow one node to use the resources from another node (conference and
speakerphone resources, etc.) with the exception of external page ports and message print
output.

Inter-Tel 5000 platform: The Inter-Tel CS-5200 provides 3 IP resources for networking. The
Inter-Tel CS-5400 or CS-5600 provides 6 networking IP resources. To increase the
number of IP networking resources, you must have the IP Networking license. With the IP
Networking license in place, you can then decrease the resource allocations for endpoints,
faxing, or networking resources. Refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide (part no: 580.8006) for details. Additionally, faxing consumes two networking
resources.
PRI Software Feature license: If configuring a T1M or T1M-2 module for PRI use, you
must have the PRI software feature license, part no. 840.0227.
T1 Service: For each network span, order a clear channel, point-to-point T1 span from the
service provider (not PRI service, even though you will be using T1M or T1M-2 modules).
T1M or T1M-2 modules: Each network span requires two modules, one for each end of
the span. A PRI software feature license is required for each node, part no. 840.0227.
Each node must have at least one central office trunk. Emergency calls should be
programmed to use the local trunk.
If an external voice processing system is shared by multiple nodes, all of the nodes should
have access to the node where the external voice processing system is located, with a
minimum number of hops through other nodes. This will have significant impact on the
network layout.
