Steering Column Switches
Turn Signal/Headlight Beam Change
The turn signal is activated by the lever un-
der the left side of the steering wheel. If
the vehicle is equipped with a cruise con-
trol, the controls for this are located on the
turn signal lever. See page 265 for more in-
formation about the cruise control.
The standard turn signal switch is self can-
celling. It must be manually returned to
neutral position after making a turn. A self
cancelling turn signal is available as an op-
tion.
For lane changes, the lever does not need
W2002694
to be moved to a locking position. Move
the lever partway off the normal position
until a resistance is felt. The turn signal is
now activated and the lever will return to
normal position when it is released.
The headlight flash function is activated by
pulling the turn signal lever toward the
steering wheel. The high beam will stay on
W3000903
until the lever is released.
To change between high and low beam,
pull the lever all the way toward the steer-
ing wheel. When a slight clicking sound is
heard, release the lever.
NOTE! When switching from high to low
beam for oncoming traffic, release the lever
as soon as the beam change is made. Hold-
ing the lever up makes the headlight flash
W3001303
function stay engaged.

Hard idle
How to set High idle
To set high idle on a Volvo VNL, follow these steps:
1. Set the cruise control switch to the ON position.
2. Depress and hold the foot brake pedal throughout the process.
3. Move the cruise control switch to the RESUME position and hold it for four seconds, then release it. The engine speed will drop to the default low idle.
4. Increase idle speed by pressing the SET+ switch. Each press increases the speed by approximately 10 RPM (up to the engine manufacturer’s limit).
5. Decrease idle speed by pressing the SET- switch. Each press decreases the speed by approximately 10 RPM (but not below the engine’s low idle setting).
6. Holding the SET+ or SET- switch will ramp the engine speed up or down continuously.
Ensure the parking brakes are applied and the transmission is in neutral before starting the procedure to prevent unexpected movement.
