We have a boiler installed in a rental property. The tenant has contacted me to say the boiler is making a loud banging noise (a neighbour 2 doors down can hear it). It was installed in May 2022 and is an Ideal I mini C. We have had the the engineer who installed it go and have a look but he can’t find anything wrong. Can you advise anything ?

A loud banging noise in an IDEAL MINI C24 boiler could be caused by several issues, including:
1. Air in the System – Trapped air can cause banging or gurgling noises. Bleeding the radiators and ensuring proper system venting can help. 2. Low or Fluctuating Water Pressure – Check the system pressure gauge (G) and repressurize if needed. 3. Kettling (Limescale Buildup) – Limescale buildup in the heat exchanger can lead to overheating and banging noises. Flushing the system and adding an inhibitor may help. 4. Pump Issues – A faulty or blocked pump can cause water flow problems, leading to noise. 5. Blockages or Restrictions – A partially blocked heat exchanger or pipework can cause water to overheat and create banging sounds. 6. Faulty Gas Valve or Burner – If the burner is not operating correctly, it may cause irregular ignition and noise.
If the issue persists, professional servicing by a qualified technician is recommended.

Mini are wall mounted, room sealed, non condensing boilers featuring full sequence automatic spark ignition and fan assisted combustion. Mini C24, Mini C28 and Mini C32 are low water content combination gas boilers. Mini S24 and Mini S28 are low water content system gas boilers.
3 If necessary, empty the water circuits. FROST PROTECTION Mini C24, Mini C28 and Mini C32 appliances are provided with a built in anti ---freeze system that operates the boiler when the temperature is below 4 ° C...
The nature of all combination boilers is to heat up water directly from the incoming mains water supply directly through the boiler to supply domestic hot water at the stated flow rates, (as shown in the boiler installation instructions), to achieve a 35°C temperature rise. As the ambient temperature of the cold main varies during the summer and winter months it is likely in the colder winter months that the flow rate will need to be reduced at the outlet taps to achieve the same temperatures achieved in the warmer summer months.
