WARNING: READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL BEFORE USING YOUR CHAIN SAW. FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION. PRECAUTIONS AGAINST KICKBACK Kickback is a dangerous reaction that can lead to serious injury. Do not rely only on the safety devices provided with your saw. As a chain saw user, you must take special safety precautions to help keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury.
• Make sure that the area in which you are cutting is free from obstructions. Do not let the nose of the guide bar contact a log, branch, fence, or any other obstruction that could be hit while you are operating the saw. •...

Prolonged use in cold weather has been linked to blood vessel damage in otherwise healthy people.

• Always use caution when handling fuel. Move the chain saw at least 10 feet (3m) from the fueling point before starting the engine. • Do not operate a chain saw with one hand! Serious injury to the operator, helpers, by- standers, or any combination of these per- sons may result from one-handed operation.
MAINTENANCE • Never operate a chain saw that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or is not completely and securely assembled. Be sure that the saw chain stops moving when the throttle control trigger is released. • All chain saw service, other than items in the Owner's Manual maintenance instructions, should be performed by competent chain saw service personnel.
FRONT HAND GUARD Your saw has a factory-installed front hand guard to prevent contact with the chain if your hand slips off the front handle. Do not remove the front hand guard. Maintain the guard in good condi- tion and do not use the guard as a hand grip. Replace it if damaged or broken.

® Las sierras de gasolina de Homelite cumplen con los requisitos de reducción de la tensión de retroceso de ANSI B175.1 sin necesitar barras de extremos de radio pequeño.
GUIDE BAR AND CHAIN ASSEMBLY DANGER Never start your engine unless guide bar, chain, drivecase cover and clutch drum are installed. Without all these parts in place, the clutch can fly off or explode. 1. Always put the switch to "O" stop before you do any work on the saw.
GUIDE BAR AND CHAIN ASSEMBLY 7. Check that the bar and pin are still in place. Tighten the nut with a wrench until bar is snug, but not tight against the mount. (Bar must be free to move for tension adjustment). 8.

STARTING AND STOPPING NOTE Be aware that some fluid, particularly chain oil, will seep from the saw during transport or storage. Do not place saw on surfaces that you wish to keep unsoiled. Steps 1 through 10 are for Starting a Cold Engine.

9. Pull starter until engine tries to run. (No more than 6 pulls.) 10.Move choke lever to half choke position (G) and pull starter until engine runs. 11.Move choke lever to run position (H). Squeeze the trigger and then release. This unlatches the trigger and gives you control of throttle for cutting.
PREPARATION FOR CUTTING PROPER GRIP ON HANDLES 1. Wear non-slip gloves for maximum grip and protection. 2. Maintain a proper grip (A) on the saw whenever the engine is running. The fingers should encircle the handlebar and the thumb is wrapped under the handlebar.
Page 18
PROPER CUTTING STANCE • Weight should be balanced on both feet - feet on solid ground. • Keep arm with elbow locked in a "straight arm" position (A) to withstand any kickback force. • Your body should always be to the left of the chain line (B).
WORK AREA PRECAUTIONS • Cut only wood or materials made from wood; no sheet metal, no plastics, no masonry, no non-wood building materials. • Never allow children to operate your saw. Allow no person to use this chain saw who has not read this Owner's Manual or received adequate instructions for the safe and proper use of this chain saw.
UNUSUAL HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS • Do not fell trees during periods of high wind or heavy precipitation. Wait to do your cutting until the hazard has ended. • Do not cut down trees having an extreme lean or large trees that have rotten limbs, loose bark, or hollow trunks.
3. Cut a notch (C) about 1/3 the diameter of the trunk in the side of the tree. Make the cuts of the notch so they intersect at a right angle to the line of fall . See Illustration 5. This notch should be cleaned out to leave a straight line.
Page 22
During bucking operations always stand on the uphill side so that the cut-off section of the log can not roll over you. A wedge can be used on large diameter logs to hold the cut open (See illustration). Make the first bucking cut (A) 1/3 of the way through the log and finish with a 2/3 cut (B) on the opposite side.
LIMBING AND PRUNING • Work slowly, keeping both hands on the saw with a firm grip. Maintain secure footing and balance. • Keep the tree between you and the chain while limbing (A). Cut from the side of the tree opposite the branch you are cutting.
HOW TO FILE THE CUTTERS Be careful to file all cutters to the specified angles and to the same length, as fast cutting can be obtained only when all cutters are uniform. 1. Clamp the middle of the guide bar in a vice. Be careful that you do not pinch the guide bar rails or the chain will not move freely in the groove.
RAKER (DEPTH GAUGE) CLEARANCE 1. The rakers (D, see page 24) should be maintained at a clearance (A, see page 24) between .020" (0.5 mm) and .018 (0.46 mm). Depth gauge tool #D06885 can be used for checking the raker clearances. 2.
REGULAR MAINTENANCE AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE For proper performance and long life, keep air filter clean. TO INSPECT AND CLEAN OR REPLACE THE AIR FILTER NOTE Always clean the air filter before making any mixture adjustments of the carburetor. 1. For access to the cylinder and carburetor area, loosen the three screws holding the cylinder cover and remove the cover.
SPARK ARRESTOR 1. Always keep the muffler (A) and spark arrestor (B) on your saw in good condition. A faulty spark arrestor screen can create a fire hazard. 2. The spark arrestor screen is retained by the deflector (C). Remove the deflector screw (D) to access screen.
