    EverSmart Scanners Installation and Maintenance About This Document This guide provides detailed instructions about how to install the EverSmart scanners properly, and maintain them in good operational condition. The procedures included in this guide are identical for the following scanner types: EverSmart, EverSmart Pro, EverSmart Pro II and EverSmart Supreme.

    Chapter 1 Site Preparation General Requirements This chapter describes the conditions that are necessary for proper EverSmart site preparation. Site Place the shipping package as close as possible to its final location. Before unpacking and installing the scanner, make sure the unpacking site is large enough to allow easy maneuvering.

This warning icon, which appears inside the scanner and in this manual, indicates that the scanner lamps are hot, and should not be handled before allowing them to cool off for several minutes.

    Unpacking Procedure The first stage in the installation procedure is to unpack your EverSmart scanner, and place it on the table. This chapter describes how to open the package and unpack the scanner. Unpacking the scanner involves the following steps: Opening the box that contains the scanner.

    Chapter 4 Software Installation Installation Procedure The EverSmart software is provided on a CD located in the Installation kit package. To install the software: 1. 1. 1. 1. The sockets are located on the SCSI connector panel on the back of the scanner, as shown in the following diagram. The connectors are connected in parallel, to enable a “daisy-chain” SCSI configuration.

Discharge any static electricity built-up before handling the SCSI board by touching a grounded metal object (like the exposed metal parts on the back of your computer).

    Stage 4 - Prepare the Scanner Stage 4 - Prepare the Scanner A message window is displayed, instructing you to clean the glass and place the calibration slide on the scanner. Prepare the cleaning kit and the calibration slide (in the Installation kit).

We recommend using domestic glass cleaning solution to clean all flat glass surfaces, as it leaves no trace after drying. The cleaning solution should not contain wax or ammonia.     Chapter 6 Installation Program A fully automatic procedure for creating new machine tables is now performed. The duration of this procedure is approximately one hour, and a progress bar at the bottom of the screen shows the percentage of time that has elapsed. At the end of the tables, the parameters are automatically updated in the EverSmartScan.Prefs file, and saved back to the scanner.
  • Page 69 Stage 8 - Backup to Diskette or External Media You can choose where to save the parameters: Diskette, Jazz, Optical, etc. If you choose Diskette, first insert a new diskette (formatted or unformatted) into the disk drive. Do not use the backup diskette provided with the scanner.

All log files are written to this log folder. If, for any reason, you moved the application, a new EverSmart Scan Log folder is created in the new location.

    The scanner operates with the following fluorescent lamps: one transparency lamp two reflective lamps two light table lamps (in EverSmart Pro, EverSmart Pro II & EverSmart Supreme) Replace the lamps when: the light level is too low (a message is displayed). This applies to the transparency and reflective lamps.

    Cleaning the Glass Cleaning the Glass The upper and base glass plates require periodic cleaning. We recommend using domestic glass cleaning solution to clean all flat glass surfaces, as it leaves no trace after drying. The cleaning solution should not contain wax or ammonia. (Clear) Windex is recommended. Do not pour cleaning solution directly on the glass, as it may leak under the glass surfaces.
