Best signal to noise ratio is obtained with higher gain settings. It is therefore desirable to set the Gain control as high as possible while still leaving enough headroom (usually 20dB) to prevent distortion.

    6.1 Small Sound Reinforcement System: In the setup shown here, the MX-508 is used to mix typical sound sources that might be found in a small club, school theater or similar environment. Six of the input channels are used for microphones for live vocal or instrumental pickup.
