I just purchased the Rega P78. The instructions say to move the tracing weight toward the front, but when I tried to do that, the weight does not seem to move. It also doesn't "engage" with any part of the tone arm as most weights I've encountered do).

To adjust the tracking weight on the Rega Planar 78:

1. Ensure the cartridge is fitted and aligned using the supplied alignment protractor.
2. Set the bias adjustment slider to zero.
3. Screw the balance weight along its shaft until the stylus is floating just 1mm above the record.
4. Apply the recommended tracking force by rotating the balance weight towards the front of the tonearm.
5. A half turn (180 degrees) of the balance weight equals 1g of tracking force.
6. Set the tracking force according to the upper limit of the cartridge manufacturer's recommended range.
