2006 model year
VOLVO OCEAN RACE EDITIONS
V70, XC70, XC90
Overview
To celebrate the start of the next, round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race in November 2005, and its
official UK stopover in Portsmouth in May 2006, Volvo has introduced 'Volvo Ocean Race editions' of
the XC90, XC70 and V70 for the 2006 model year.
The Volvo Ocean Race edition models will be the official cars of the race at each of the race's nine
stopover ports around the world and available for customers around the world until the end of the
race in summer 2006.
The gruelling Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) sets off on 12th November 2005 from Vigo in Spain on its first
leg to Cape Town, South Africa, before going on to: Melbourne, Australia; Wellington, New Zealand;
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Baltimore/Annapolis and New York, USA; Portsmouth, UK; Rotterdam, Holland;
before finishing in Volvo's home town of Gothenburg, Sweden in June 2006. Full details and regular
updates of the full drama of the race are available from www.volvooceanrace.org.
Exterior and Interior design
A unique Ocean Blue pearlescent paint immediately differentiates the Volvo Ocean Race edition
models. Their appearance is also enhanced with 'Electric Silver' coloured side door mouldings,
brushed aluminium roof rails, and special Volvo Ocean Race badges, key ring and tread plates on the
door sills. Compared to the equivalent standard 'SE' models (and SE Lux for the XC70), the XC90 VOR
edition also has body coloured door handles and mirrors, while the XC70 VOR edition gains larger
17in alloy wheels.
Naturally, the interiors are also distinctive, with unique 'Ocean Blue' aluminium inlays, plus floor mats
with co-ordinating blue piping. They also have unique upholstery with blue stitching inspired from the
world of sailing; the V70's upholstery has a tactile 'T-Tec' material, while the XC70 has a mixture of
leather and textile, with full leather upholstery for the XC90.
