Installation and Configuration Considerations for
FASTPTCP
FASTCNFG DEVICE, HOSTS, and POLLTYPE
Configuration for FASTPTCP
Each TCP/IP printer must be represented by a DEVICE entry in the FASTCNFG file.
Because the FASTPTCP print process can support printers attached in several ways,
the attributes supported by FASTCNFG DEVICE configuration vary based on the type
of connection. Some attributes can be specified for any TCP/IP connected device.
Other attributes are only used for a specific type of connection. The subsections
beginning with
page 3-15 discuss the attributes that apply to all TCP/IP connections followed by the
attributes that apply for the various connection types.
In addition to the connection-specific considerations for the DEVICE entry, FASTPTCP
also differs from the other FASTP network print processes in that FASTPTCP supports
the following additional FASTCNFG-related features that are not supported by any
other FASTP network print process:
A FASTKCON file and the FASTKCUT utility. Note that the FASTKCON file and
FASTKCUT utility are only supported beginning with the G06 and D48 RVUs. The
FASTKCON file and FASTCUT utility are described in detail in
FASTKCON Configuration File (Beginning with the G06 and D48 RVUs)
page 3-40.
The FASTCNFG DEFAULT keyword, which is only used by the FASTKCUT utility
when creating a FASTKCON file. The DEFAULT keyword is ignored when a
FASTCNFG file is read directly by the FASTPTCP print process. Its use and syntax
are described in
The FASTCNFG HOSTS keyword, which can be used to direct FASTPTCP to a
local hosts file for IP host name to address resolution. Its use and syntax is
described in
The FASTCNFG POLLTYPE keyword, which can be used with HP JetDirect
printers to define a POLLTYPE record to control interpretation of SNMP responses.
Essentially, this feature allows you to determine whether FASTPTCP performs
MIB-II SysUpTime processing and how FASTPTCP maps SNMP printer responses
to Guardian file error codes and, optionally, EMS operator messages. Note that
POLLTYPE is only supported beginning with the G06.10 and D48.02 RVUs. The
POLLTYPE keyword is described in detail in
HP JetDirect Printers
The use of any of these additional features is optional.
Note. Like any other FASTP network print process, DEVICE information can be added to,
deleted from, or changed in the FASTCNFG file at any time. However, updated information for
a device becomes effective only after the FASTPTCP print process controlling the device reads
the information. Remember, with the exception of RVUs G06.10 and D48.02 and later, you
must set bit 5 (%2000) of the PARM attribute by using the Spoolcom DEV command to instruct
the FASTPTCP print process to read the updated configuration.
