OiL FiLL CAP & DIPSTICK
Engineoil levelcan be checkedand oil addedthroughtheoil fill.
NOTE:This unitwas shippedWITHOUToil in the engine.Oil is
includedin the plasticbag packedwith the manualin with the unit.
Add theoil as directedin theGas & Oil Fill Up section.Checkthe oil
levelbeforeeachoperationto ensureadequateoil is in the engine.
Forfurther instructions,referto the stepsin the EngineMaintenance
sectionof this manual.
SHIFT LEVER/SHIFT
LEVER INDICATOR
BRACKET
Theshift leveris locatedon the handleassembly,it is usedto select
NEUTRAL,REVERSE,or one of the three FORWARD modesby
pullingup or pushingdownon the shiftleverand placingthe shiftlever
indicatorbracketin the desiredposition.
The gear positions
are:
WheelsForward(No TineAction)_' -- Thewheelsmoveforward,but
the tinesare stationary.
WheelsForward/TinesReverse_"_ -- Thewheels moveforward
and the tines rotatein reverse(backwards).This gear settingis for
ground-breaking tillingand hard soil.
WheelForward/Tines F orward _
-- Thewheelsmove forwardandthe
tinesmove forward.Thisgearsettingisforcultivating andtillingsoftsoil.
Neutral[_ -- All movement ( wheelsand tines) is stopped.This gear
is for startingand pushingthe tiller.
Reverse [_--
Thewheelsmovein reverse,butthe tinesare stationary.
CLUTCH
LEVER
Theclutchleveris located on theleft handle.Squeezing theclutchlever
againstthehandleengagesthewheelandthe drivemechanisms.
DEPTH STAKE
This levercontrolsthe tillingdepthof the tines.Pull thecotter pin out
from theclevis pin to adjustthe tillingdepthto five differentsettings.
SWING
LEVER
Thesteeringhandlecan be swivelledin eitherdirection.This enables
the tillerto be guided to the next row.Releasethesteeringhandle
by pullingup on the swinglever.Swivelthe handleintothe desired
positionand releasethe handleto lock into place.
HANDLE ADJUSTMENT
LOCK
Thehandle maybe adjustedto the heightdesiredby unlockingthe
HandleAdjustmentLock,then movingthe handlebars to thedesired
positionand then re-lockingthe HandleAdjustmentLock.Thehandle
shouldbe adjustedsothat whenthe tiller is digging3 to 4 inchesinto
the soil,the handlefalls to aboutwaist-high.
REAR TINE SHIELD
The rear fine shieldprotectsthe operatorfromflying debriswhilealso
smoothingoutfreshlytilled soil.
SIDE SHIELD
The side shieldis usedto maintaincleareven rowsand may be
adjustedto one of five differentpositions.
TINES
Yourfiller's tinesare a series of bladesarrangedon a revolving
power-driven shaft.
GAS AND OIL FILL-UP
Oil (one bottle shipped with unit)
FirstTime Use
1.
Removeoilfilldipstick.
2.
With the tilleron levelground,use a funnelto emptyentire
contentsof oil bottleprovidedinto theengine.
3.
Replaceoil fill dipstickand tighten.
Subsequent Uses
Onlyusehigh quality detergent o il ratedwith API serviceclassifica-
tion SF,or SG.Selectthe oil's SAEviscositygradeaccordingto the
expectedoperatingtemperature. F ollowthechart below.

Althoughmulti-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30, e tc.)improvestarting
in coldweather,they will resultin increasedoil consumption when
usedabove32°E Checkyourengineoil levelmorefrequentlyto avoid
possibleenginedamagefrom runninglow on oil.
1.
Checkthe oil level makingcertain notto rub thedipstickalong
the insidewalls of theoil fill tube. Thiswould resultin a false
dipstick reading.Wipe dipstickcleanwith cloth.Replacedipstick
intothe oil filler neck,butdo not screwit in. Removeandcheck
oil level.Refill to FULLmark on dipstick,if necessary.Capacityis
approximately 20 oz. Overfilling will causethe engineto smoke
profuselyand will resultin poor engineperformance.
2.
Replaceoil fill dipstickand tighten.
3.
Keepoil levelat FULL.Runningthe enginewith too little oil can
resultin permanent e nginedamage.
