Install Additional Memory

SIMM Installation Rules
use only HP SIMMs listed on the Technical Reference Label on
the HP NetServer chassis
all SIMMs on the board run at 60 ns, 36-bit, fast-page mode
SIMMs must be installed in identical pairs in the banks indicated
(Bank A comes preinstalled with a pair of 8 MB SIMMs)
a maximum of 192 MB of RAM may be installed (6 x 32 MB)

Install Additional Accessory Boards
NOTE
Install only PCI boards and Plug-and-Play boards at this time. If
you are installing non-Plug-and-Play ISA boards, such as certain
modem boards or multi-port boards, see the

information, see the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM.
Available Slots
Six accessory board slots are available:
• Slot 1 (the innermost) accepts a half-length 16-bit ISA board or
32-bit PCI board. This slot has a PCI SCSI controller board
preinstalled.
• Slots 2 and 3 accept 32-bit PCI boards. Slot 3 has a Network
Interface Card (NIC) preinstalled.
• Slot 4 accepts a full-length 16-bit ISA or 32-bit PCI board
• Slots 5 and 6 accept full-length 16-bit ISA boards
Boot device priority order
Boot order for PCI controllers is determined by slot. The system
searches for a bootable device in the following order:
1. Flexible disk drive with bootable flexible disk
2. IDE CD-ROM drive with bootable CD-ROM
3. IDE hard disk drive (if user installs)
4. PCI Slots in the following order: 3, 1, 2, 4

Installation Procedure
1. Remove the air cooling duct. Lift the front until the T-hook is free of its
slot as shown below. Then gently pull the duct towards the front of the
NetServer and up and out of the chassis. Store it in a safe place for
now; you must replace it before you replace the NetServer cover.

2. Align the notched corner on the SIMM with the key on the right side of
the slot and insert the SIMM at a 45-degree angle, as shown below.

3. Pivot the SIMM downward to the horizontal position until the retaining
clips on both sides snap into place.
Installation Procedure
1. Read the documentation included with each board. Refer to
Accessories
chapter
any special instructions and accessory board installation
recommendations.
2. If you have not already done so, remove the air cooling duct as
described in Section 5 above.
3. Remove the slot cover for each slot used.
4. Install the board. Some boards have preferred locations, in
which case special installation instructions should be detailed in
their manuals.
