Installation Instructions
SAB-353
SW3-1172 - V1
1. Introduction
For use with the L[X]M[X]M8[X]-6-60 and L[X]M[X]M6[X]-6-60 'Megalodon' antenna series, the SAB-353
provides a simple mounting solution for fitting this product line to the peak of the ribs on the roof of a Ford
Explorer / Interceptor 2020.
Comprising a silicone rubber mounting boot and adhesive conductive pads, the kit is easy to fit to the an-
tenna and to install on the vehicle. When correctly fitted the adaptor will seal the mounting hole and conform
to the contours of the roof rib presenting a pleasant aesthetic finish. This installation guide must be read in
conjunction with the standard installation guide for the antenna range.
2. Mounting requirements and selecting location
Select a suitable position to mount the antenna. The centre line of the antenna must be positioned on the
centre line of the vehicle roof rib. Select a position where the curvature or slope of the rib are consistent.
Avoid locations where the adaptor boot edges will be positioned over dips or changes in the roof rib profile.
The adaptor boot can be used before fitment to the antenna to check whether a location is suitable, to
establish whether the adaptor will conform neatly to the rib profile and as a template to mark out the position
of the required mounting hole.
It is recommended that the installation is carried out when the temperature is higher than 50°F (10°C) - the
ideal temperature for the pad bonding is in the range of 70°F (21°C) to 100°F (37°C).
Ensure that there is adequate under panel clearance and that there are no objects or obstructions under the
panel where you need to drill. For optimal performance, the antenna should, if possible, be mounted at least
300mm (1ft) away from other conductive objects on the mounting panel.
3. Fitting conductive pads
Remove mounting nut and washer from base and antenna cables. Remove backing and liner from addi-
tional conductive pads. Firmly affix new conductive pads to the existing conductive pads in the two positions
indicated. Ensure that the new pads are positioned centrally. See figure 1.
