How to Apply the Arm Cuff

  1. Select a cuff appropriate for the patient.
Arm circumference Size of the arm cuff
17 - 22 cm Small size adult arm cuff
22 - 32 cm Medium size adult arm cuff
32 - 42 cm Large size adult arm cuff
  • Use a suitable cuff size. Otherwise, incorrect measurement may result.
  1. Insert the air plug securely into the air connector of your monitor.
How to Apply the Arm Cuff - Step 1
    • Please check your present product as to which plug you must use. Using the wrong plug may cause air leakage and incorrect readings.
  2. Check the air tube.
    • Make sure that the air tube protrudes from the [ ] mark on the cuff as the illustration shown below.
  3. Have the patient rest the arm with the palm facing up.
    • The arm cuff must be attached on the right upper arm.
    • If the arm cuff is wrapped over a thick cloth or the patient's sleeve is rolled up and pressure is applied on the arm, an accurate measurement result will not be obtained.
  4. Place the cuff on the upper arm. Align the [ ] mark on the arm cuff with the artery on the inner side of the upper arm.
How to Apply the Arm Cuff - Step 2
  5. The bottom edge of the arm cuff must be 1 to 2 cm above the inside elbow.
  6. Wrap the cuff securely with both hands, so it can not move around patient's arm.
How to Apply the Arm Cuff - Step 3
    • Make sure that the air tube is positioned on the inside of patient's arm.
    • The cuff does not have to be wrapped aligning the edges. Still correct measurement will be obtained.
    • If the [ ] mark is positioned out of range of the [ ] mark as the illustration below, that means the patient's arm circumference and the size of the cuff don't match. Choose an appropriate cuff and reapply it
How to Apply the Arm Cuff - Step 4
    • If the cuff is not wrapped securely around the patient's arm, the arm may become numb or a measurement cannot be taken accurately.
  7. Keep the arm with the cuff attached at the level of the heart.
    • For correct measurements, keep the cuff level flush with the patient's heart.

Maintenance Procedures

Wiping
Wipe the cuff using a soft cloth moistened with the diluted alcohol or diluted neutral (mild) detergent.
