Driver alert system (break recom-
mendation)
Fig. 9
On the instrument cluster display: driver
alert system symbol.
The driver alert system informs the driver when
it deduces tiredness due to his/her behaviour at
the wheel.
Operation
The driver alert system determines the driving
behaviour of the driver at the start of a journey
and then calculates the fatigue level. This is
constantly compared with the current driving
behaviour. If the system detects that the driver
is tired, an audible warning is given with a sound
and an optical warning is shown with a symbol
and supplementary message on the instrument

Operating conditions

Driving behaviour will only be calculated at
speeds above approx. 65 km/h (40 mph) up to
approx. 200 km/h (125 mph).

Activating and deactivating

Fatigue detection can be activated or deacti-
vated in the infotainment system using the func-
tion button
Driver assistance > Fatigue de-
tector.
The driver alert system is always switched on
when the ignition is switched on

Operating restrictions

The driver alert system has certain limitations
inherent to the system. The following conditions
may cause the driver alert system to be limited
or not to function:
Speeds below 60 km/h (40 mph).
Speeds above 200 km/h (125 mph).
On curvy roads.
In sections with roadworks.
On roads in poor condition.
In unfavourable weather conditions.
With a sporty driving style.
If the driver is seriously distracted.
The driver alert system is reset when the vehicle
has been stationary for more than 15 minutes,
the ignition is switched off or the driver has un-
fastened the seat belt and opened the door.
In the event of slow driving during a long period
of time (below 60 km/h, 40 mph) the system
automatically resets the tiredness calculation.
When driving faster, driving behaviour will be
recalculated.
WARNING
The smart technology of the driver alert sys-
tem cannot overcome the limits imposed by
the laws of physics and only works within the
limits of the system. The increased comfort
provided by the driver alert system should

not lead you to take any risks. On long
journeys, take regular and sufficiently long
breaks.
It is always the driver's responsibility to be
fully capable of driving.
