Description:
The Kill A Watt Flex is an easy-to-use consumer power meter
allowing the user to accurately measure power consumption of
household appliances and to determine the actual cost of power
consumed. The unit will also project, in real time, the cost and
carbon footprint of continued use of the appliance in time periods
of Day, Week, Month, and Year. The device features a precise
circuit which provides very accurate results. Voltage and current
are measured using true RMS methods. Total consumed power
is displayed in Kilowatt-hours (KWH). It is easy to use with a large
display and simple 5-button interface. The unit will register in
memory the minimum and maximum measured values for Watts,
VA, Volts and Amps.
Quick Start Guide to Standard Mode
Your Kill A Watt Flex unit has two modes of operation – Standard,
which gives you basic information about appliances and their
power usage, and Professional, which offers more in-depth
information. This section gets you up and running using Standard
Mode. Before you begin, take a look at the following image to get
a better idea of what's where on the device and the LCD screen:

When you're ready to get started, follow the steps below. Be sure
to review all the operating instructions later to ensure full
enjoyment of the product.
1. Review the safety instructions for your Kill A Watt Flex.
See the section, "Safety instructions."
2. Remove the protective film covering the LCD meter
display by pulling the tab marked "Remove Before Use."
3. Plug the unit into an electrical outlet. Pick an outlet near
an appliance whose cost you want to monitor. If need be,
unplug that appliance, but don't forget to turn the appliance
off first. If the outlet is in an inconvenient location, you can
use an extension cord; however, use a quality extension cord
with an appropriate rating.
4. Set your rate. This is an optional step, as your Kill A Watt
Flex comes preset with a rate based on a typical kilowatt hour
charge in the continental United States. However, if you want
to be more precise, you can input what your electrical utility
is charging you per kilowatt hour. You can get the rate from
your monthly utility bill. To enter your rate, follow these steps:
1. Press the green Pro key briefly. "Pro" appears in the
display window. The device starts out in Standard mode,
but you need to switch to Professional mode to enter
your rate. Pressing the Pro key switches to Professional
mode.
2. Press and hold the KWH Hour key for three seconds or
until "CLR" appears in the window. This resets the
device.
3. Press and hold the $ key for three seconds or until "Rate"
is displayed and the currently set rate flashes.
4. Press the keys underneath the ↑ or the ↓ arrows to adjust
the current rate to what your utility charges. Remember:
The rate is given in dollars, so if your utility charges you
11.6 cents per kilowatt hour (KWH), adjust the rate until
the unit displays $0.116. Holding the keys will change
values rapidly.
5. Press the key under the ← arrow twice. The first saves
the rate in the device, the second returns you to
Standard mode.
5. If you have not already done so, turn off the appliance
whose cost you want to monitor and plug it into your Kill
A Watt Flex.
6. Turn the appliance back on and confirm that it is working
normally. If the appliance isn't working normally, recheck
that you have everything plugged in properly.
7. View the information about the appliance in the LCD
window. The device starts in Standard mode, from which
you can:
▪
Press $ to find out the projected monthly cost of how
much the appliance costs you to run.
▪
Press Watt/VA once to find out how many Watts your
appliance is using.
▪
Press Watt/VA again to find out how much apparent
power in Volt-Amps your appliance is using
▪
Press Volt/Amp once to see how many Volts are applied
to the appliance. Press it once more and you will see the
