    ASUS AI Direct Link • Opera To perform an action in any software tool, use your finger, the stylus pen, the keyboard or, the mouse.     Bar resides on the desktop allowing you to launch applications �uickly. �ou can also select a power saving mode for the system and control the front LED light. Eee Bar is automatically launched when the OS starts, and by default it is hidden. Click an empty space on the desktop to display Eee Bar.

    ASUS Easy Update ASUS Easy Update is a software tool that automatically detects and downloads the latest BIOS, drivers, and applications for your Eee Top. From the Windows® notification area, right-click the ASUS Easy Update icon. Select Schedule to set how often you want to update your system.

    StarSuite 8 StarSuite 8 is a complete office suite software package that allows you to edit a document, calculate on a spreadsheet, prepare presentation slides, make charts or sketches, and build your own database. StarSuite is a functionally identical version to StarOffice. In areas other than East Asia, you will have StarOffice 8 instead of StarSuite 8 installed on your computer.

    To edit an existing file, click Open existing presentation. Click Next to continue. �ou can click Create to skip all the wizard instructions. If you want to create a presentation with a template, click Form template. For first-time usage, it takes time to initialize the templates. Click Next to continue.

    SoftStylus SoftStylus is a finger-writing recognition application that enables you to write down messages, e-mails, and other notes with your finger or the supplied stylus pen. There is also a virtual keyboard available for you to type. Getting started Open the application you are going to write into, StarSuite Writer in the following examples.

    Write with your finger or the supplied stylus pen in the recognition window. Recognition window The most likely input data is shown in the document window. Meanwhile, the recognition engine generates several alternatives in response to any text input. If the recognition is incorrect, select the correct text.

    Configuring properties Click the Properties icon on the toolbar to configure settings. General The General tab describes the software title, build number and copyright information. Clicking the Launch SoftStylus when Windows Starts check box will launch SoftStylus automatically when the OS starts.

    The Appearance tab allows you to adjust Transparency of Window and Pen Width by moving the respective sliders and then click OK when done. �ou can also select an Ink Color. • Transparency of Window: modifies the transparency of the recognition window from not transparent to invisible.

    To launch Opera, click the Opera icon on Eee Bar. Browsing web pages �ou can scroll up/down the web page by moving your fingertip up/down on any space of the page. Note that Text Selection must be Off in the status bar.

    �ou can also do the following to save a web address as a Speed Dial entry. Click one of the nine thumbnails. A dialog box appears. Select a web page from the list or type a new address, and then click OK.
  • Page 25 Opera widgets run within Opera. When you close Opera, the widgets will also be closed. If you close a widget, you can re-open it from the Widgets panel. �ou can also rearrange your widget collection or delete widgets you no longer want.

    Eee Cam Eee Cam, working alone or with instant messaging software (Windows Live Messenger, Skype, etc.), provides interesting effects and useful add-ons for your webcam. Eee Cam allows you to perform the following functions: • Add effects to your webcam image or video, including emotion effects, frames, filters, and distortions.

    Eee Cam has the following two modes depending on the way you launch this program. Certain functions are available only under a specific mode. • Stand Alone Mode: When Eee Cam is launched by clicking the desktop icon, it will be opened in the larger-screened Stand Alone Mode.

    Eee Cam provides special effects and drawing tools that you can apply to your live webcam image in both Stand Alone Mode and IM Mode. When applied, a remote party will see the effects right away. �ou can also apply these effects to the snapshots or webcam videos.

    The Burst feature is available only in Stand Alone Mode. To take photos, click the Snapshot/Burst button, and the photo(s) will be displayed in the captured content pane and saved by default to My Documents > Eee Cam.

    Recording videos With Eee Cam you can capture a live web cam video complete with special effects, or set up a timed video recording. Video-recording is available only in Stand Alone Mode. • Capture: Capture a live web cam video.

    Sharing documents In IM Mode you can share documents for viewing during a webcam session (in PPT, JPG, BMP or PNG formats). To begin sharing a document: In IM Mode window, click the Sharing tab. Click the Import button or drag the file(s) you want to share in the pane.

    • To launch the Eee Memo board, touch the yellow Eee Memo icon on the bottom center of the screen and move your finger to the left. • To go back to Eee Clock, touch the white Eee Clock icon on the bottom center of the screen and move your finger to the right.

    Launch the Eee Memo board. Touch a colored post-it note paper to begin writing your note. Select a Pen Color from black, red, blue, and green by touching the respective icon and write on the note paper. �ou can select the Eraser icon (�ellow) to clear what you wrote. When done, select OK.
  • Page 34 The notes you wrote will be posted on the Eee Memo board. �ou can drag a note to anywhere you want over the board. To delete a note on the board, simply drag it to the wastebasket on the bottom right corner of the screen.

    Managing the deleted notes For notes in the wastebasket, you can delete them one by one or delete them all. �ou can also recycle a deleted note. Touch the wastebasket and three options appear: • Delete All (Red): Select to empty the wastebasket.

    To launch the program, click the Eee Cinema icon on Eee Bar. Music The Music function allows you to listen to music files (in MP3, WAV, and WMA formats) or audio CDs (an external USB optical drive is re�uired) with visualizations and create playlists (in .wpl format) for your favorite songs.

    �ou may use the playlists you create in Windows® Media Player. If you want to play a music CD, you will need to connect a USB optical drive to the computer. When you insert a music CD into the optical drive, it will begin to play automatically.

    Backspace on the keyboard. Recent Music From the Eee Cinema main menu, select Music > Recent Music to view the music you recently listened to. To remove an item from the list, select the item and then select Clear History.

    Browsing for photos Select Browse By to browse for photos by Folder, Date (date taken or last modified), or Rating (the ratings you gave). Use the Zoom in and Zoom out buttons to change the size of the folder/photo thumbnails.

    Individual photo To view an individual photo, select the photo and it will display in a paused slideshow. Use the buttons on the bottom of the screen to Zoom In/Zoom out or Rotate the photo, or select Menu to display more options.

    �ou can apply fixes to your photos, including rotating photos and removing red-eye. To do so, select the photo you want to fix and then select Menu > Fix. �ou can also select Auto Fix for Eee Cinema to automatically fix a photo’s properties, such as overly lit or dark photos.

    Watching videos To play a video, simply select the video to start playing it. �ou can also select Menu to display more options. Use the playback control bar to control the playback. �ou can select the Take a snapshot button to take a snapshot in JPG format and save it to the Pictures folder on your computer.

    Movies The Movies function allows you to play DVDs. To play a DVD, you will need to connect a USB optical drive to the computer. When you insert a DVD into the optical drive, it will begin to play automatically.

    To launch the program, click Start > All Programs > ASUS > Eee Splendid > Eee Splendid. The left pane shows what a sample image is like on your screen, while the right pane shows what the image is going to be like after you apply an Eee Splendid mode.

    �ou can create your own settings by clicking the My Profile button and adjust Colorfulness and Color Temperature by moving the respective sliders. �ou can also base your settings on a preset mode. When done, click the Save button to save the results.

    ASUS AI Direct Link allows file-sharing with high transfer rate among computers in a home network. �ou need to install AI Direct Link to all your home PCs using the support DVD, and then connect them to the same network.
