Place the box on a large sturdy flat surface. Lift the topmost cardboard insert from the box. The top of the coffeemaker will be visible. Turn the box so that the back side of the coffeemaker is down and slide the coffeemaker from the box. -

Insert a #4 paper or permanent filter (such as Cuisinart CGF-1 or GTF-1). Be sure that the filter is completely open and fully inserted in the basket. It may help to fold and flatten the seams of a paper filter beforehand. -
