    DRiViNG THE TRACTOR iMPORTANT: A voidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedand sudden stops. NOTE:YourRevolutiontractoris equippedwith an innovativedrive system.It is normalfor someforwardmovementof thetractorto occur whenthe brakeis released. Brieflydepressthe brakepedalto releasethe parkingbrake. Movethe throttleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position. Totravelforward:Slowlydepresstheforwarddrivecontrol pedal untilthe desiredspeedis achieved.See Figure5. ForwardDrivef Pedal Figure5 Totravelin reverse:Checkthat thearea behindis clear,then slowlydepressthe reversedrivecontrolpedal untilthe desired speedis achieved.See Figure5.

    MOWING Tohelp avoidbladecontactor a thrownobject injury,keepbystand- ers, helpers,childrenand pets at least 75 feet fromthe machine whileit is in operation.Stop machineif anyoneentersthearea. This tractorisequippedwith one of Craftsman'shighqualitycutting decks.The followinginformationwill be helpfulwhenusingthe cutting deck with yourtractor. • Do not mowat high groundspeed,especiallyif a mulch kit or grasscollectoris installed.

    ENGINE MAINTENANCE Checking the Engine Onlyuse high qualitydetergentoil ratedwith APIserviceclassification SF,SG,SH, or SJ, Selectthe oil's SAEviscositygradeaccordingto the expectedoperatingtemperature. F ollowthe chart below. f_older 32°F Oil Viscosity Chart Althoughmulti-viscosity oils (5W20,10W30,etc.)improvestarting in coldweather,they will result in increasedoil consumption when usedabove32°RCheckyour engineoil levelmorefrequentlyto avoid possibleenginedamagefrom runninglowon oil.

    Charging the Battery If thetractorhas notbeen put intouse for an extendedperiodof time,chargethe batterywith an automotive-type 12-voltchargerfor a minimumof one hourat six amps. Batteriesgiveoff an explosivegas whilecharging.Chargebatteryin a well ventilatedarea and keepawayfrom an open flame or pilot light as on a waterheater,space heater,furnace,clothesdryeror other gasappliances.

Raisethe front of the tractorand set it on jack stands,sothe front wheelsare suspendedabovethe ground. Graspingtheends of the pivotbar,attemptto moveeachend of the axleforwardand rearwardto checkfor side play.There shouldbe minimalor no sideplay.
  • Page 26 BLADES Be sureto shutthe engineoff, removeignition key,disconnectthe sparkplug wire(s) to preventunintendedstartingbeforeremovingthe cuttingblade(s)for sharpeningor replacement. P rotectyourhands b_ usng heavyg oves or a rag to graspthecutt ng bade. The bladesmay be removedas follows: Removethe deck from beneaththe tractor,(referto CuttingDeck Removal)then gentlyflip the deckoverto exposeits underside. NOTE:Placea blockof woodbetweenthedeck housingand the cuttingedgeof the bladeto help in breakingloosethehex nut securing the blade.
  • Page 27 Pivotthe idler bracket/idlerpulleyto relievethe tensionon the timingbelt, and reposition the drivepulleyand/or timingpulleyto achievethe 900orientationof the timingarrowson the pulleys. Re-installthe idler bracketbackstopand positionso that thereis a 1/8"gap betweenthe backstopand idler bracket.Tightenthe hex screwandflange lock nutto securein the adjustedposition. BELTS Be sureto shut the engineoff, removeignitionkey,disconnectthe sparkplug wire(s) to preventunintendedstartingbeforeremovingthe belt(s).
  • Page 28 Applyingforceto eitherthetiming belt idlerpulleyor thetiming belt idler bracket,pivotand hold theidler bracketagainstthe springtensionjust farenoughto allowliftingthe timing beltoff and abovethe idler pulley.Carefullyreleasethe idler bracket.See Figure21. Loopthe timing beltand lift out of the timingpulleyand overthe righthand spindleassembly.Maneuver the belt betweenthe drive pulleyon top of the spindleassemblyand the spindlecoverto remove.

Transmission Drive Belt NOTE:Severalcomponents mustbe removed,includingtransmission steeringlinkagewhichwill haveto be readjusted,in order to change the tractor'stransmissiondrivebelt.
  • Page 30 Neverstorelawntractorwith fuel in tank indoorsor in poorly ventilatedareaswherefuel fumesmay reachan openflame,spark, or pilot lightas on a furnace,water heater,clothesdryer,or gas appliance. PREPARING THE ENGINE iMPORTANT:Fuelleft in the fueltank duringwarmweatherdeterio- ratesand willcause seriousstartingproblems. To preventgumdepositsfrom forminginsidethe engine'scarburetor and causingpossiblemalfunctionof theengine,the fuelsystemmust be eithercompletelyemptied,or the gasolinemustbe treatedwith a stabilizerto preventdeterioration.
