Chapter 4 DRIVING SAFETy cont. Off road driving The Captiva has not been designed as a full off road vehicle. The requirement to maintain a very high degree of comfort, ride, handling and stability dictates the ground clearance and may not be sufficient to allow the vehicle to be driven over very severe four wheel drive tracks.
  • Page 106 If the engine is misfiring, reduce the vehicle speed and do not attempt to tow a caravan or trailer, until the misfiring is corrected by the nearest Holden Dealer. Continued driving while the engine is misfiring could result in the catalytic converter and exhaust system overheating, resulting in vehicle damage.
  • Page 107 Chapter 4 DRIVING DRIVINg PRECAuTIONS cont. Brakes Power assisted brakes, which are fitted to your vehicle, utilise vacuum from the engine when it is running. Never let the vehicle run down steep inclines without the engine running. Never coast with the engine switched off. A decrease in driving, cornering and braking traction occurs when water, snow, ice, gravel or other materials are on the road surface.
  • Page 108 If the vehicle is stationary in deep water for an extended period, it should be checked by an authorised Holden Dealer as soon as practicable for water entry to engine, transmission, differentials and wheel bearings.
  • Page 109 Chapter 4 DRIVING PARK BRAKE The park brake acts on the rear wheels and the lever is located between the front seats. To apply the park brake, stop the vehicle, apply the brake pedal and pull the lever firmly upward. To release the park brake: 1.
  • Page 110 Chapter 4 DRIVING PARK ASSIST The Park Assist system is able to detect and indicate obstacles at the front and rear of the vehicle when parking. The system consists of four sensors in each of the front and rear bumpers, a control unit and a speaker in the vehicle’s interior.
  • Page 111 The Park Assist system may not work properly during a malfunction, you should manoeuvre the vehicle with special care. Check the sensors and clean them if necessary. If the malfunction persists, have the system checked by your Holden Dealer. Deactivating Automatic deactivating: The system will be deactivated when the vehicle’s speed raises above 8 km/h.

Approximate range of sensors Alarm tones When the vehicle approaches an obstacle the sensors will start detecting at approximately: • Front 120 cm • Rear 180 cm At the above distance the alarm tones will sound with a long pause between tones. As the vehicle manoeuvres closer to the obstacle the pause between the alarm tones becomes shorter.
